Random, useless Latin
Posted Jan 5, 2000
Recently, I finished reading a book that was apparently written during a span of time in which Dean Koontz was particularly enamored of his Latin dictionary. (It's called Seize the Night, excellent book, if anyone is interested) Here are the phrases he managed to work into the novel:
Carpe diem- seize the day (nothing earth-shattering there)
Carpe noctem- seize the night (a bit of a twist and- imagine that- the title of the book)
Carpe cerevisi- seize the pastry
Carpe furcam- seize the fork (implied in the story, not confirmed by me)
Carpe coffeum- seize the coffee (implied in the story, not confirmed by me, and I really wonder about this one)
Carpe aestus- seize the surf
