...actually I don't know any Ivan's, so I have no yardstick to measure your degree of average-ness
But anyone who like Elvis Costello can't be bad
Anyways I seem to bump into you every once in a while...and as a general rule you seem to skitter away......but you didn't today, so I thought I'd strike while the iron was tepid (can solid things be tepid ? Shall I just leave it at "warmish ??) and drop by to "officially" say hello...
Hullo !

Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Aug 18, 2004
*recoils after being struck with tepid iron* Ow!
Hello, and welcome to my space. It's untidy, but it's home.
Yes, it's unfortunate but I do have to skitter away most of the time. Most days I can't even post from w*rk, but today I got lucky and everyone else is in meetings...
I have no idea what an average Ivan is like either, especially since Ivan isn't my real name. I leave that off-site. It's available via the email address on my PS, of course.
If you do manage to get to Canberra (EC concert or otherwise), I would be delighted to meet you, and even more delighted if this involves a pub.
Right now, I'd better scarper again... 26 minutes until hometime, not that I'm a clock-watcher or anything...
Ivan.

Oops, I hope I didn't hurt you there...silly iron...see, this is why I don't drive...I just can't be trusted
*looks around Ivan's space admiringly*
Well, you've done wonders with what you've got, I must say...most of the time I end up shoving pizza boxes under the pictures in *my* space...they're more for distraction than anything else
The only Ivan I can think of was the Butler in "Days of Our Lives"...is it sad that I remember that ??
I do have to go up to Canberra again soon...as I'm sure I've told you my girl is up there, and she has a new place so I have to go see it...and when I *do* get there, we will have to catch up
Well, off you go then , glad I could capture your attention for a little while at least...if you get any emails from an adress that involves tanzen in the near future...be not afraid...but that doesn't mean you have to open it

Well it's another sunny day in smokey Melbourne...
...or is that another smokey day in sunny Melbourne ??
Oh well, it's Melbourne, it's Friday, and in 6 hours I will be on my way home
Hope you're day is going well !

On the assumption that you'll find this on Monday morning - I hope you had a good weekend...
I just spent the afternoon at the doctor's. Nothing serious; no need for amputations or anything - but it might make me a bit erratic, posting-wise, for a few days. But then, life itself makes me erratic these days.
The Average Ivan...
tanzen Posted Aug 23, 2004
Good morning (well, for another 2 minutes, then it's afternoon )
The weekend was, well, hectic...Friday night caught a plane to Tassie to meet the family (ie my boy's brother and his boy)...Saturday we went on a "walk" (I use the term loosely...it was steep and muddy and painful...which lead me to believe his brother didn't approve of me )...then we went to check out the nightlife in Launceston (they had ...I was happy )...then Sunday morning caught a plane back home.
Now it's Monday I'm still half dead and my calf muscles are being quite adamant in voicing their "displeasure" about the "walk"
But apart from that everything is well...I think
I hope that all is going well in sunny Canberra ? Is everything under control? Shall I light a candle for a speedy recovery or are you on the mend already ??
I know what you're saying about life being erratic...I have no idea what's going on these days...I suppose the last couple of months have been less of a hassle in some ways, but when I say "less of a hassle" it merely means "less like a soapy"
Well I best be off to lunch, we've got fire training in the afternoon
I will hopefully catch you soon
The Average Ivan...
Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Aug 23, 2004
Fire training? Is that where they make you walk on red-hot coals, or will you all be leaping through flaming hoops like in the circus? (Of course it might just be one of those silly evacuation drills, but that's too dull to contemplate.)
I have a couple of days off w*rk; back there on Wednesday. I'm well enough, but the chance for a couple of lazy days was too good to pass up. As it's above 13C today, I'm doing a bit of gardening, and a bit of sitting here in agony because of the gardening. All that moving about - it's unnatural.
Thanks for the offer of lit candles, but there's no need - unless they'd be an atmospheric addition to the fire training...
The Average Ivan...
tanzen Posted Aug 24, 2004
Nothing nearly as exciting as that...just the boring stuff I'm afraid. We got to play with the fire extinguishers though ...I hurt my hand on the trigger thingy...but that's the price you pay when it's your job ot save the live of others...
...tanzen...injured in the line of duty
I've got Thursday and Friday off w**k...getting one of my wisdom teeth removed...I must admit I'm looking forward to it. There must be something terribly wrong in the universe when you'd rather have bone ripped from your mouth than be at w**k
I hope you're having fun bludging then ! I wish I could garden...I have no affinity for plants though...I have Bob and Cornelius (Bob lives to spite me, and Cornelius survives because he knows I'd be devastated if he died )...Bob naturally does better than Cornelious, because he's a w**k plant. I think the other girls feed him when I'm not around...possibly because they've heard me say nasty things about him when I'm watering him
Well I will just think calm happy thoughts for you then ...that going back to w**k isn't too much of a hassle for you
The Average Ivan...
Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Aug 24, 2004
I quite understand about the teeth thing - I was happier than usual at w*rk the other day, becase I was leaving early to go to the dentist, and people questioned my sanity when I explained. I think I'm perfectly sane; everyone else in that place is .
The gardening thing has been painful today; I pulled a muscle in my shoulder, somehow. Also, the ground's so dry and hard that I broke the trowel thingy when I tried to dig a hole. Snap, it went. That's the second one I've broken out there. (The first one broke when I threw it at a marauding Rottweiler that wanted to bite my leg off. I missed...)
I so don't want to go back to That Place tomorrow.
The Average Ivan...
tanzen Posted Aug 24, 2004
I'm glad you at least understand
Oh yeah, there will be hot searing pain...but at least my boss won't be there telling me I did it wrong
I pulled a muscle in my back the other week - absolutely excruciating! In the shower...brushing my hair, no less...how humiliating! Who pulls a muscle brushing their hair ??
I'm still sore from the weekend...went to tassie to meet the boy's brother and the boy's brother's boy (did that make sense ??)...they decided to go down to cataract gorge...which involves steep ouchy hills...these boots were made for walking, but the knees have a speed limit
Can you wag work? tell them you've got the flu or something ???
The Average Ivan...
Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Aug 24, 2004
I've never hurt myself in any hair-related accident, but I did dislocate a toe answering the phone once, and I sprained my wrist folding a pair of socks, so I understand these things.
As for the outdoors life - the last serious trekking I did was in the Andes, and I wasn't dressed for it. Nobody told me we'd be above the snowline, and I only had a pair of Dunlop Volleys with me... Remarkable shoes, but they do tend to let icy water in.
I can't wag w*rk. There's too much going on that I need to be involved in, or it'll be worse for me later. *sigh*
The Average Ivan...
tanzen Posted Aug 24, 2004
I come from a long line of clumsy people, it's ridiculous Of course dodgy knees and a taste for don't help matters, but running into things, falling over nothing, this is what we do
I suppose it's my own fault for having long hair...especially long wet hair...you're just asking for trouble then
I know exactly what you mean...we were told we were going to "see the gorge"...no one said anything about steepness or mud...and no one told me it would be a good idea to *not* wear an ankle length velvet skirt...I was lucky I was wearing my steelies...'cos if I had slipped and wreaked my skirt I would've lost it. I could handle spasming calves, sweating abundantly, losing breath and the very real possibility I would lose a knee at some point...
...but it I ripped, dirtied or otherwise harmed my skirt I would've taken them all on
Can you at least play up a phantom illness, so they only bother you with the *really* important stuff ??
The Average Ivan...
Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Aug 24, 2004
I can't do the phantom illness thing, but I can play up the fact that I'm run-down, and the doctor said so, and I'll be doing what I can but if they find me asleep at my desk at any point they're to leave me alone...
As for hair - a friend of mine had a terrible hair accident - she was running late for w*rk and brushing her wet hair in a hurry, and the brush got caught. She was very late for w*rk as she had to go to the hairdresser to have the brush cut out... The mental picture of her walking down one of Adelaide's most yuppified streets with a brush stuck to her head is one I treasure.

I wish I could fein illness...but macho law forbids it
Your poor friend! I remember I had to get one of my sisters to do an emergency cut on my hair...but that was because another one of my sisters decided it would be *hilarious* to suck my hair in a vaccuum cleaner...
...oh yeah, it was hilarious ...and so was the giant matted knotted glump of hair I was left with...
The Average Ivan...
Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Aug 25, 2004
How long ago was the vacuum cleaner incident? Considering the 'through a bush backwards' look is quite fashionable at the moment, I'm assuming it wasn't recent.
By the time you see this, you'll have been through the whole dental business. I hope you're recovering nicely. Here's some purely medicinal stuff: .

Good morning !!
The hair thing was years ago...possibly primary school...I've had a few incidents with my hair actually...once my sister cut my hair complete with zig zag patterns in the back of my head...I had to wear a headband for about 3 months...even my Dad wasn't allowed to see it
I suppose it's one of the problems with having longish hair...I remember when I turned 18, my mother said to me "have fun, don't mix your drinks and make sure no one burns your hair"...and all in all I've tried my best to keep to those rules, and things have been ok !!
Yep, I now have a giant gaping wound in the back of my mouth The worst part was it took about 15 minutes and 3 injections to get everything numb...after that it took about a minute for the dentist to yank the tooth...that was embarrassing
But apart from that the weekend was alright...went to the pub and got asked how Tassie was a lot...that was nice...it's nice to be missed .
And everything seems to be varying degrees of good..the boss man isn't in so it's better still
How goes it in Sunny Canberra <cheerup??

Hello again.
I appear to have missed you today... It is unfair on these days when I can't post from w*rk... I might be chattier next week; I'll be at home, looking for excuses not to do housew*rk and gardening and things like that. (The estate agent wants to do an inspection and I have months of neglect to sort out.)
I like your mother's rules, and I've never missed my wisdom teeth at all - I got rid of them maybe 10 or 12 years ago.
Sunny Canberra has been drenched over the last 24 hours - the first decent rain in a Very Long Time. I'm enjoying it immensely. In fact, there's a puddle outside - I must go and stand in it.

Good morning !!
If I couldn't post from w**k I couldn't post at all. I decided a looooong time ago I wouldn't get internet at home...that's all I need...one more reason to never leave the house
Although I may get it a little later in life...you know, somewhere in between my "crazy old hippie lady on a motorcycle" phase and "crazy old recluse in a cave on the Scottish Highlands" phase...in fact it would probably be a nice transition...I've just got to find a suitable name for it now
Wisdom teeth are a funny thing...when I say a "funny" thing I suppose I mean a "red hot ouchy" thing...but funny none the less
(I need ...is it obvious yet ?)
Yeah, it's been raining down here as well...everyone in the office is getting all huffy and looking for umbrellas and the like. The only thing I don't like about the rain is I'll get in trouble if I go out in it at lunch time at w**k...in' God folk...never let me have any fun
