Everything I've considered writing for the EG so far fits neatly into a standard structure for geographical or biographical entries - even the abortive Ern Malley piece does that. I need to start with something completely odd, where there isn't the ghost of a standard approach to plague me.
(Snaily, have you come across Ern Malley before? He's my favourite Australian poet. http://jacketmagazine.com/17/index.html There's a lovely Ern Malley feature in there, as well as the full text of all his works.)

I loathe job application stuff; my CV reads like one from about 25 different people has been shredded & glued together. How can you explain you have done everything from manage restaurants to teach English to run organic farm to busk on the streets, basically "am good at surviving: have managed so far; i can do this job; just let me prove it to you & stop hassling me"

Thanks for the link, Ivan. Yes, I had heard of Ern Malley: there was a review of his hoax in the Sunday Times in 1993; I've still got the clipping. It has one of his poems, and I like it rather a lot. Of course, I'm of the school of thought that says Ern has skill and doesn't realise it.
Gothly has written some cracking poetry with the same attitude, trying to show me what a load of tripe modernism is. I admire it because I cannot do it myself.

I like the whole canon, especially 'Petit Testament', and the one about mosquito breeding conditions. ('Now have I found you, my Anopheles!')
Must discuss Ern further. I used to know Max Harris' daughter; I wish I'd asked her more about the Ern Malley business when I had the chance. Haven't seen her for years now.
Bed calls... See you tomorrow, as it were.
