Hi Websailor I was doing a search on Chris Packham and discovered your article A12429821 as the only reference to him. I recall Bill Oddie saying that someone should write a biography on him and as I'd written one on Bill Oddie I thought it right to create an Entry on Chris Packham.
On reading round his name in your Entry it was highlighted to me that you are indeed right about there being few women presenters that talk about nature ....I can only think of Kate Humble
Surely with today's world being seen as equality for all that there should be more women ... anyway I'm rambling
Keep up the great Entries

Thanks Opti, I think a biography on Chris Packham would be an excellent idea.
As to women wildlife presenters, I know Kate Humble seems to dominate these days, but Saba Hamilton is brilliant - she does mostly African wildlife since she was born there. Michaela Strachan comes across as knowledgeable and perhaps more importantly enthusiastic, and Kate Silverton has been doing some work with Big Cat diary, so it seems that women are coming to the fore at last. It is comforting to see that younger presenters are coming up, following in the footsteps of the greats like David Attenborough.
Of course, we are talking mostly BBC and ITV here in the UK. There may be many more elsewhere.
Thanks for reminding me about that article, it is nice to look back and read afresh what I have written. I have just started on my Christmas one. I can't believe I have been writing them for three years!
with Chris Packham. I shall look forward to seeing it. If I can find anything useful I will let you know.

Congratulations on writing for for so long. I find it a challenge trying to think of something to write for it and so I think it's wonderful that you appear to have found your niche.
The more I think of Chris Packham the more I wish to find out about a camera club in hampshire and see whether he's a part of it. Perhaps he could end up tutoring me. A former university friend's father once took photos of him ...I think there was one of him and a snake once.
for enlightening me as to how many women there are out there revealing their for nature too.
I seem to recall that Steve Irwin's daughter was interested in wildlife like her father so perhaps we may see her reminding us of the great natural wonders in life one day.
Looking forward to reading your festive piece in the Christmas issue of .

Do you recall Howie Watkins from the Really Wildlife Show?
Hi Websailor from Opti
Websailor Posted Dec 9, 2008
Yes, the Really Wild Show I think it was called. I caught a bit of it on Animal Planet (?) I think. Not sure if it is on these days.

I only caught the occasional bit on BBC 1, and I saw a tiny clip on Animal Planet. He must have been pretty good to make an impact on such a short acquaintance!

Howie is certainly memorable The main reason I remember him though is that he now owns a scrapstore near me.

I wish I had somewhere like that near me. I wonder how he is doing? The bottom seems to have dropped out of the recycling market, but perhaps that is just the bulk stuff that Councils do.
Has he got a website for it?
