Remembering Jack

Morning WS!

I've just had a memory and thought that you may appreciate it. Like you, my doors and windows are always open. One day some time ago, I returned to the kitchen to the sounds of fluttering and squeaks smiley - yikes

Lo and behold, amongst the saucepans I spotted a Jackdaw; having a whale of a time, pecking hell out of the black top on a saucepan lid. There was no sense of panic, (not in the bird anyway - you could almost hear him saying "Hi! who are you? Where am I? My name's Jack") He then descended to the breakfast bar and pecked around for any bits we might have left; then settled himself down - beak under wing - and went to sleep in a pie dish on the shelf.

Having absolutely no idea what the hell I should do next, I went out onto the drive to think and presently saw an old lady from down the road, looking very fraught. "are you alright" I asked "I'm looking for my Grandson's Jackdaw - he's got out"

Now! I just couldn't resist could I?

"It's ok, I've got him in a casserole" smiley - evilgrin

We went back into my kitchen; where the culprit was still all a bye byes, until the suddenly raucous voice of said old lady shouted "JACK, come here" at which point the bird woke up, fluffed up his feathers and flew down onto her shoulder - I've never seen anything like it!

Apparently, the Grandson (aged around 20) saved the bird as a foundling and raised it with heaven knows what and it lives in their home as if it owns the place.

Scorp, I feel awful missing this lovely story. It appeared in my 'extinct' PS which I always forget to check. There is some confusion about my two spaces and I just haven't had the energy to try and correct it. The last time things got screwed up and I don't know why.

That really is a lovely story. Pit you didn't put it on the badger thread.
