HiHo,

I don't know why your Yahoo Messenger doesn't work. You said you were online at work, maybe your employer has a firewall that stops it. Do you know if anyone else at work is able to access it??

Raining huh! That's how I remember the UK (I grew up in SE London, and later in Essex). I'm travelling at the moment. I'm in Perth, about 3000km from home in Melbourne. It's been a sunny 25 degrees Centigrade today. Not too bad smiley - smiley

Do you get paid when it rains??

Hope to see U on Yahoo soon.

GG

I know Kent (well, I've been there anyhow). My cousins are from there. Not that far from where I was born in south east London.

Yeah, the flight is a killer. I,ve done it twice since I've been here. Fortunately my employer picked up the bill both times. I love travelling though. Having already pulled up my roots it makes it easier. I don't feel like I am attached to any locality.

I've not been to Canada. I'd like to though. I'm told that Canadians are similar to Ozzies, dispite the different climate. Australia is a great place to live. Good standard of living and easy going. Great places to travel within Australia, if you can handle the distances. (It took me 4 hours to fly here (Perth) from Melbourne.)

I emigrated here in 1974, when I was 16. My parents didn't like it here, so they went back as soon as they could (with my little brother). No way I was going to return, so I stayed here. I like to boast that I never left home, home left me.

Yeah, I met my wife here, she was one of the first people I met here. Married young, probably because I felt the need to have a family.

U have a dog huh! We have had dogs. We dont have any now, but we do have 2 galahs, a cat, rats (my daughter breeds them), a ferrit, chooks (ie: chickens), ducks, rabbits and guinnypigs.

Hey Dood,

Don't hold the galah against the rest of the ozzies! Most of them are OK.

(I hope you get the chance to call her/him a galah, they should appriciate it. Hehe.)

Have fun giving out those tickets. I've only ever had one parking ticket. It was in Tasmania. I was really upset until I realised it was for AU$5.00. (Cheaper than paying for parking).

(Tasmania is the island state of Australia, just below the the bottom right hand bit.) They tend to get the butt end of the jokes.

Hey, traffic wardens here are called "Brown Bombers", because of a uniform they once wore. (I assume traffic wardens do the same job there as they do here.) What yous called there?

Enjoy the nice day!

Ciao,

Steven (aka GreenGuzzi)

G`day sport ( my oz impression, what do you think?)

Our "galah" is named Jim, and believe me he definaltely is one! he used to do the traffic warden job in oz before he came back to england( never could figure that out!) we are called the yellow perils after the yellow band on our hats. although now we wear purple bands because its no longer a criminal offence to park illegally, and the posts were taken over from the police to the local councils. I used to do it with the police and it was much better.
i too have had parking tickets - 1 was £30 for parking on dyl and the other was £150 and 6 penalty points on my licence for parking on zig zags!!!----- all many years ago I may add!!

gotta go, have to annoy the public!

Bye.
Michelle (still confused!)

Hi Michelle,

I'm back from Perth. I'm back home in Melbourne now. It's not as hot here. It was stormy last night.

Hope it starts raining again there soon!

Hey GG
Just seen in my newspaper that the weather in Melbourne is a little wet! Hope its nowhere near you.

Post 17

greenguzzi

Oh yeah! I've been driving in it!

But there is a saying in Melbourne: If you don't like the weather, just wait a while.

The weather can change from horrid to sunny fine in less than 1 hour.

I'm late for work, so I'll chat later.

rain - and sun

Post 18

Hi Shelly,

(Sorry, I hope you don't mind me calling you Shelly. That's what I call *my* Michelle. Actually many years ago I started calling her Smelly, just because it rhymes with Shelly. And it sort of.. Um...stuck. And now some of her friends, including her boyfriend, calls her that too. Maybe "Confused" would have been better after all!)

Anyhow, the rain has gone and the sun is shining brightly. In fact 36C (97F) is forecast for Tuesday. Like I said, in Melbourne - if you don't like the weather; just wait!

"Rack off drongo". Hehe, that is soooo Ozzy! Well, it is sort of a caricature of Ozzy speech. Like, maybe how they talked in the 70s. (There was even an ozzy song titled "Rack off Normie" from that era.) And "drongo"; apparently that is also some kind if bird. (I wonder what the Ozzies have against birds?!?) But I have no idea what a drongo bird is. But most Ozzies know what a Galah is.

Anyhow, Galah and Drongo both mean "stupid", "fool" or "idiot". But "galah" seems to be less archaic and also slightly more friendly.

Hope you are enjoying you days off.
Hey, if you want to continue this conversation on email mine is:

Or else I'll see you back here.

Yahoo Messenger

Post 19

greenguzzi

Dear Confused,

I was thinking about your Yahoo Messenger not working at your office.

Maybe it just needs the proxy settings entered.

If you right-click the Yahoo icon in the systray (near the Windows time display) you can choose "preferences".

Then you can tell Messenger to "Use proxies". And you then tick "enable HTTP proxy" and then type in the server name. (You don't need to enable the SOCKS proxy.)

If you don't know the name of your HTTP proxy you can find it in MS Internet Explorer.
(Open Internet Exdplorer. Click on: Tools -> Internet_options -> Connections -> LAN_settings. There you will see the name of the proxy server under "addess".

Just copy it into the "server name" field in Messenger as I described above. Then try to log on again.

If you get time give it a go.

Cheers,

GG
