Roskilde Festival 2000.
I am not sure if you have seen the news about this festival, but there were 8 people killed and many more hurt. I was there. I would really like to see some kind of area/article/forum put up on H2G2 as a memorial to those who lost there lives.
If you need some material to start this then my latest Journal entry might help.
Please see what you can do, I feel that I need to do something to help those who lost friends last weekend.
Many thanks
Shaun

I heard about it on the news. So why are you not writing the article?

I am going to write an article, I was not about how to form it. I think I will write two versions, one review of the bands, etc and another about the accident and how it effected the festival. What do you think?
Please, please, please ....
Crescent Posted Jul 4, 2000
Sounds like an excellent idea If you need some help, GuideML or whatever, then just yell If you get them written, I will see if Peta and TPTB want to highlight it on the front page of the site So, how did the accident effect the rest of the festival?

Many thanks for the replies. I will start on the articles later today, must do some work after all!
I am going upload the pictures I took tonight to my Zing.com pages, so once I have written the articles it would be good if you could choose some to be placed in the article.
By the way what does BCNU stand for?

If you want the Articles to enter the Approved Guide, unfortunatly the pictures will be stripped out However they will still be in the original Article I have the same prob with work Can you believe that they actually expect you to WORK, just because they are paying you? The BCNU means exactly what it says (it comes from The Prisoner TV program), if you say each letter out loud it becomes 'bee sea en you' -> be seeing you Well, until later....

I have not had the time yet (not sure if I will) to learn to use GuideML, so I have submitted it in plain text - Roskilde 2000 What happened.
I decieded that work could wait a bit longer, this was more important. I will take a little more time to produce the review of Roskilde.
Q? : If my article (any of them) is submitted and not approved, will I ever get notified?
Please, please, please ....

I can give you a quick lesson if you want - just the simplist basics, it will take 5 mins, honest - just headers, subheaders and paragraphs. I mean it is really, really easy as for your question, if you submit your Articles you will get an email saying if it gets in, or not. If it is rejected then there will also be a paragraph saying why it was rejected I will go and have a look at it now

A quick lesson would be great, thanks.
One more Q? : How long should a person expect to have to wait for an article to get reviewed ?
Please, please, please ....
Crescent Posted Jul 4, 2000
OK - the quick lesson first First of all the article needs to be put into GuideML mode. To do this go to where you edit the page. At the bottem of the edit window you have the 'Update Article' and 'Preview' buttons. Below this, you have the mode change buttons. Select GuideML and then click the 'Update' button. Once this is done, and the page reloads, you will see the tag and the tag. At the end you will also see the tag and the tag, closing them off.
The text goes between those two sets of tags The first tag that you will put in is, probably, the 'Paragraph' tag. At the very start of a paragraph you put in, and at the end, you put .
The next is the Header tag - For the start of different sections. The header is the boldest of the writing in Approved Guide. For ease of use the tags are and . Any text between them becomes the header.
The Subheader tag - Not quite as big as header. The tags are and any words between them become a subheader.
That is about it for a first lesson But here is a quick sample of the GuideML above.....
This is just a quick guide to GuideML, the XML derivative used on The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy : Sol III Edition
The Tags
The tags are how you tell h2g2 what you want the pages to look like, they specify how the page is set out and how it will be shown.
Paragraph tag
This tag puts spaces between different paragraphs, and between paragraphs and both kinds of headers.
Header tag
Makes a header Suprisingly enough
Every tag should have a closing tag so a must always have a etc.
That should do you for now If you get stuck though, just yell in this forum and I will do what I can as for your other question, there are 600 odd articles in the queue for approval, at the moment, so the waiting time is still like 10 weeks (six months ago it was 20 weeks!) Well, until later....

Thanks for helping me get the article on Roskilde published.
I hope that many people will see it and comment on it to. I am going to write to the festival organisers and hope they will link to this article.
Hope my next article to get published is on a much happier note.
Regards /Shaun
