retired

Got my car back around the first week of March. Shortly after that an offer was made to all employees over 60 that had at least 12 years with the company. I accepted retirement effective 13 March the last day of the week. That Monday I didn't feel so good so I called in sick. My supervisor suggested I go to the hospital since I had insurance. I went in and they checked me over and ran some blood tests. They said they think I might have some blockage in my arteries and suggested I stay and have them perform a proceedure. Turns out they had to put in two stents. They said I had a blockage of 70% and 100% in the two arteries. I got out Thursday and went in to fill out my final papers Friday.

Bonnie is getting worse. Now keeps asking me if we can go approximately every 5 seconds. Even asked me a couple of times if it was okay if she went to the bathroom. Her left knee appears to be swollen and apparently from x-rays she has arthritis in that knee. I am going to get the bathroom fixed the end of this month so she won't have to go to the basement to shower. 4/18/09

2009, a new year

2009 may be a new year but so far not a great year. my job has changed and I am not sure if I am up to the challange. Bonnie keeps on deteriorating and I might have to seriously consider retiring to take care of her. I promised that she would not end up in a retirement home. Her Mother and Dad died in one and it is not going to happen to her. My car is still in Canada where it has been sitting in a garage since Mid December as best I can remember.

Weekend trip 17,10 2007

Took midget and bride on a small road trip. Went Southwest and then east. Ran into a few small towns. I took pictures of some watertowers. I have a collection of watertower pictures that I hope to make into a booklet for Midget, maybe for some future show and tell of his roadtrips and the towns he has been through. We stopped at a playground which had a few new fixtures that Midget hadn't played on. Unfortunately Bonnie needed to use some facilities that weren't available there. So, we ended going on with the road trip.

Don't know whether it will help or not but I am going to look for a wheelchair for Bonnie in October. At least I am hoping it will help her to enjoy going to the zoo and maybe do some mall window shopping. This would be cheaper than road trips.

Malique hadn't taken his chill pill for the day so he was full of questions. Non-stop questions actually. Mainly he wanted to know when we were going to the book store. I told him a day or so ago I wanted to get a book for him. I hope to get "I will teach my dog 100 new words." It was smiley - ant's favorite book. I'll have to see what books smiley - ant has. We gave a lot of them away to my other grandchildren.

getting worse?

Weekends can be a bear. I try to work at the computer and/or watch TV and my bride will come into the room more frequently than before. Even if I try to keep her company she still wants to go on road trips. She will say, "Just a little one." But taking her somewhere such as a store and then bringing her back home won't work. She is getting more confused. When I take her for a ride the first thing I say is "seatbelts" as I lock my belt in place. She automatically reaches to the area I lock my belt. Telling her that it is on her other side sometimes helps but often I have to show her where to grab the belt and more often than not I end up locking the belt for her.

When she goes upstairs to bed I have to remind her she can turn the light on in the stairway and the bedroom and I have to point out where the light switch is located. When she is upstairs she seems to have forgotten where the swith is so she turns the bedroom light off at the light fixture which leaves the other light on the stairway still on. At night when she gets up to go to the w.c. she will use the switch to turn on the stairway light but when she goes back to bed she leaves the light over the stairway on.

While she showers I have to take her dirty clothes and put them in the clothes basket and then after she showers I have to wait at the stairs in case she forgets or can't find her clothes which are sitting right where she towels off. The last shower she grabbed the dirty trousers out of the dirty clothes basket.

spiderbaby meets his nemisis

He can climb up doorways, on top of cars, up a rope tied to a branch but crabs and things that swim can flip him out. I took the grandkid to our local zoo. He wouldn't go near the octopus or crab even though the critters were behind glass under water. My son tried to get him to go up to the glass and spidey threw a fit. I filmed it and showed him later on the PC and he just looked down and didn't say a word. I got the impression that he realized he over reacted even for a five year old. We went to Indiana to a buffalo farm and although eh admitted he was afraid of them he was calm the whole time we were out by the buffalo. The tour is in a wooden sided wagon pulled by a farm tractor. We sat in the wagon amongst the heard of about 125 buffalos, big and small, while the animals grazed on the grass around the wagon and even a couple of then scratched their faces and sides on the scoop at the front of the tractor.
