Hi Jimi,
I've noticed recently you've been posting after my greetings to some of the new users. No problem with that but we seem to be duplicating some links. Peta has recommended that Aces should post second greetings on a new conversation to minimise confusion for the new ones. Also if you come to the newcomers page we still have about 40 newbies left to greet rather than us both greeting the same ones. Aces have been asked to always end their subject heading with . so that's what I'm doing - it saves time not having to look at the forum to see if an Ace has visited. Hope you don't mind the note.

Ooops!
Sorry. The ACEs' role has changed quite a bit since last year. (I joined up in the first group and then gae it up for a while because of time constraints IRL and wanting to maintain output as a Sub)
Any other subtle things that aren't included in the job description that I'm missing?

Not really, its good you are greeting again as there are a distinct lack of active Aces when you consider there are 100 or so. Subbing is vital too, noone likes to wait for articles. Its just that the number of new users is mind-boggling. I don't think many aces quite realise that over 100 activate pages every week. I have made it my job to 'sweep up' any that have been missed and if you post on my postings then I have to visit to see if it is the newbie getting in touch.....otherwise I think it's good to have Aces who have a different perspective which your other duties must give you and it's good to have more than one ace visit. Especially if they can give a more personalised service.

Thanks to your efforts all the latest newcomers have been greeted - thank you once again.
The only thing to mention is that if you are using the new users page then it's good to use the forum at the bottom of the page to claim sections and report them finished.
Nice to see you back aceing along with your other committments.

*starts taking notes for next week*
Back in the old days, we just rode into town, flashed our badge and told newbies where to go...
You mean there's a whole system to it now?

androyd Posted Oct 19, 2000
Theoretically there is a system but very few Aces seem realise the fact.. All I do is read instructions and try to follow them, which seems to be highly controversial. Also the aces e-groups forum gets postings with advice, suggestions etc, so if you don't check it out regularly you'll miss stuff. Hey but if you like I'll keep you updated on anything significant. That way you won't have to plough through the irrelevant stuff.

I've been trying to plough through the messages on the egroups site, but there's a lot of 'em since I left the Aces scheme, oh, so long ago.

Listen let me cover the aces one for you if you are going to be doing some aceing. here's a start:
Hi everyone!
I've jiggled a few of the pages for newbies in preparation for the release
of Ripley, and I thought you'd like to know:
The Aces' Home Page is at http://www.h2g2.com/Aces (though you know this!).
There's a forum specially for newbies to get to know each other at
http://www.h2g2.com/Welcome-Newcomers
There's also a page at http://www.h2g2.com/Welcome for people who have just
registered and who want to know what they can now do with their new account.
These have all existed before, but the emphasis on the last two has changed
somewhat. Go check 'em out and let me know if I can do anything to improve
them further. Thanks!
