whats with the black velvet? or daren't I ask?

As you may have gathered I have only been on this site a few days and I am very keen on doing other things within the site like becoming an Ace, a Scout, a Guru and researcher can I join now or do I have to wait?

As an ACE, you'll be asked to welcome newbies to the site and offer them helpful and friendly advice. Knowing your way around the site helps with this because you're a better guide to the Guide and understand the ethos of the site a bit better.

Scouts read through Peer Review and offer helpful advice/support to authors there who are striving to get their entries included into the Edited Guide. This requires a pretty good knowledge of the Writing Guidelines and what makes a 'good' entry.

Gurus are people who know the ins and outs of how the site works and have the experience and ability to be able to troubleshoot when something goes terribly, terribly wrong with someone else's page (often through personal experience! )

University Researchers are on hold at the moment while the site management works out what they want to do with that particular volunteer scheme...

Then again many, many people on h2g2 never join any of the official volunteer schemes. But there are dozens of other groups to join - from a group called the Thingites who want to re-name Thursday 'Thing,' to people who write for the h2g2 community newspaper The Post, to weird religions like the 'Church of the True Brownie' and lots of other stuff I've forgotten for now...

Thanks Jimi X for that information I can't wait to become those things and help others. I am also debating on whether or not to write an article for the Post or for something else.

Oh right I rarely drink and I have never worked in a bar so I would not have a clue how to make that or any other drink.
