Feisor - -0- Generix I made it back - sortof ...

My name is Feisor and I am an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) here at h2g2. It's my job to welcome you to the site and hopefully show you around a little. I AM a real person, not an automated reply not an automated reply not an automated reply smiley - laugh.

Welcome to h2g2 – not just the friendliest on-line community but an incredibly huge, living, breathing guide to Life, the Universe and Everything. It’s compiled by researchers just like you and it's something YOU can take part in. You can write entries on all manner of subjects, and if it's something you think would look good in our Edited Guide (where all the best research goes), you can submit it to Peer Review Take a look at the <./>writing-guidelines</.> for more information on that. smiley - smiley

You have made a great start by opening your space smiley - applause I hope when you get to know us a little better you'll tell us a little more about yourself - but there's no rush - and it's not compulsory smiley - smiley

We ACEs are volunteers here to assist new researchers so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
You can leave a message on my space just by clicking on my name at the top of this message or by hitting the reply button below - it won't hit back (usually).

I have made a "Hints and Links for New Researchers" page at <./>A719840</.> - if you go there it will lead you to all sorts of places which will help find your way around and get to know this wonderful place. It should keep you busy for a while smiley - biggrin

Oh, and don’t forget to bookmark not only your space but the H2G2 <./>FrontPage</.> - it’s a great way to stay in touch with what’s happening and leads to all sorts of corners which you may otherwise miss.

I am sure that you will love this community as much as we do smiley - biggrin There's lots of things to see, clubs to join and people to meet - please don't be shy - just jump right in - this is a friendly place. But be careful - it can become quite addictive - believe me I know smiley - laugh

smiley - cheers

Enjoy!!
Have fun!!!
and above all smiley - dontpanic!!!

That's great!! smiley - ok

I can see that you are getting the hang of it all smiley - applause

Here's something that may help - and remember, if you need help or have any questions just drop a note here and I'll get back to you asap smiley - cheers

If you see something you like you can see how it's done by typing http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/testuserpageXXXXX where XXX is the user number, for instance to view the code for my page type http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/testuserpage38014 - it's probably nice if you ask before "pinching" code but you can have anything off my page without asking smiley - biggrin

Oh, and as far as the 3 kids are concerned ... have you considered a cattle prod? smiley - tongueincheeksmiley - laugh

smiley - sleepy respect is due! smiley - yawn 06:00 on Sunday on a bank holiday weekend! you must have kids (or you should get out more! smiley - tongueincheek)or perhaps you'd just come in after a night on the tiles?!

Nice one! It did occur to me yesterday that it would be handy to be able to see the code on pages. Thanks for that.

Re cattle prod - N.B.C. suit more useful - potty training the youngest currently smiley - yuk. smiley - sorry if thats an 'overshare'!

On the 'if a man speaks...' front, I've done, and I know a lot of people (crossing all educational and socic-economic groups) who also have done, a lot of speaking in forests, within and outwith the hearing of women and I can quite unequivocally state that the sum total of our combined knowledge, after much in-depth analysis, is that beyond any acceptable level of reasonable doubt, the answer you seek is - it depends.
- Or is this a rhetorical question? The possibiltities are endless. smiley - zen retreat required to consider...

smiley - cheers

smiley - doh orange juice all over table, library book - just missed computer.... thanks 'thing 2' (as opposed to 'little cat b' or 'thing 1' you understand)

I don't have kids of my own (thank ) but do have lots of nieces and nephews.

My brother has 3 boys under 6 - the twins, when they were younger (they're almost 5 now) were nicknamed Search and Destroy smiley - rofl so I can sympathise smiley - biggrin

PS - what's an N.B.C. suit ?

ok, that doesn't work. Is that because first message was plain text?

anyway, open picture to see suit. (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, by the way.)

Australia, you say? different time zone didn't enter my range of posible solutions. I suppose the clue was 'G'day'!

Must smiley - run (smiley - boing and smiley - somersault )- 'walking' the dog with kids beckons.

smiley - cheers

Hello Feisorsmiley - smiley
I've been watching various threads trying to work out whats going on and made the odd post. Scarcity of replies so farsmiley - sadface. I guess I should just tough it out? smiley - brave?. Feels a bit voyeuristic just watching. When does 'getting the hang of it' turn into lurking? Is lurking a bad thing? I see from your space that you are an 'un official h2g2 lurker' What does this mean? So many questions and probably pretty obvious - sorry.

You didn't take me up on the man in forest thing - I find it most intriguing. I must come up with something suitably.... .... suitable!smiley - wizard
thanks for your offer of using ideas from your page; I did the thing. Now plucking up courage to ask someone I saw with a scrolling, coloured hello message. Just need visitors then!smiley - whistle
I've just realised that this is a bit like going to a new school! Hope my report card is better than last timesmiley - sillychild.

Y

Well, you seem to be going about it the right way smiley - biggrin

"I've just realised that this is a bit like going to a new school!" - yes! or just arriving at a party that's been going for a while ... sometimes it just takes a while for people to realise that you will stay and are not just a fly-by-night. Keep at it and, as I said, approach it as you would a social situation smiley - ok

You might like to try subscribing to the <./>AskH2G2</.> page or <./>MiscChat</.> and have a look at the conversations that are going on - don't just barge in though, try and read the backlog and get the feel of the thread first.

Lurking is an honoured and respectable thing to do - it means just watching and reading - anyone can do it - we even have our own smiley smiley - lurk

The man in a forest thing is just something I read on a tee shirt and liked smiley - laugh I can suggest a few if you like ...
What about - 333: I'm only half evil
or Don't take life so seriously - it's not permanent

smiley - sorry

Your space is coming along well smiley - applause Don't be scared to ask about the scrolling, coloured hello message - look at it as a compliment - I don't think anyone's been bitten for asking smiley - biggrin
