The History of THE BAY CITY ROLLERS
The Singles (1971-77)

During 4 years in the seventies 5 young men from Edinburgh, sent young girls into mass hysteria, with their music and their pin-up image. The Bay City Rollers were the first to be labelled a 'Teeny bopper' band, appealing mostly to young teenage girls.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An initial Bay City Rollers were formed in 1967, with the Longmuir brothers Alan & Derek and John Devine who then invite Gordon 'Nobby' Clarke to be lead vocalist. In 1969 while performing the band are spotted by Tam Paton, the resident bandleader at the Edinburgh Palais, who quits his job to manage the lads having recognised their potential. Tam picks the bands name by sticking a pin in a map of the US, and finding it in Bay City. The band are primary a top 20 chart covers band, playing local clubs before getting a 12 month residency at the Top Storey club on Saturday's.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During the following year the band undergo several changes to it's line up, with, Neli Henderson joining on guitar, Archie Marr on organ and Eric Manclark. The band have their first hit single in 1971, with a remake of the 'Gentry's', 'Keep On Dancing'. Three more singles follow, 'We Can Make Music', Maana' and 'Saturday Nights' each featuring new guitarist, Faulkner, but each of these songs fail to chart. Devine and Clarke leave, to be replaced by, Wood and the new lead vocalist McKeown.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The line-up that was to make, young girls scream and even faint was now complete and for a brief time in the seventies, establish themselves has sex icons.
