Just curious as to where the name comes from, by any chance an amazingly GOOD bit of yank TV
called 'Oz'? We caught on to it some time ago and have been recommending it to people (with
suitably strong stomachs & VCR's due to it being in the middle of Thursday nights on C4) ever since.
A bigger cast than Hill Street Blues and storylines to make your eyes pop out...

Hi , sorry about the lateness of my reply, but Iv'e been out to lunch, waaayyyyy out to lunch.
I have indeed perused the show 'Oz' , but my researcher nickname predates the show and has only the most serendipitously conincidental connection with it.
If you check out my rather banal and sickeningly peppy intro page, which I must get around to changing one day,you will see that in one lifetime I did in fact hail from Ireland. However this has nothing to do with my researcher name. At the time I chose it, I had just finished watching a rather cheesy sci-fi movie called 'Zardoz', which had none other than Sean Connery, pre Bond, SNP and kighthoods. It revolves around a premise of a future post apocolyptic world of haves and have nots kept under control by a mercenary army who use a combination of violence and superstition to maintain order. The 'Zardoz' in question comes from the title page of a book which has been partially obscured by the dirt of time , the book being the 'Wizard of OZ', the title being obscured thusly'**zard ** OZ' hence zardoz,;which is adopted as the name of the all powerful spirit which controls everything and who punishes those who step out of line.
This however is getting us no nearer to why I chose my name.To cut a long story to ribbons, I, having seen the movie and then logging on to the net soon after was confronted by the fact that I had to choose a username to access a site. In veiw of the recent film I decided to choose 'emeraldcitizen' and have prospered happily ever since.
Many people have speculated on the motivation behind the choice of name, reading in meanings of nationalism or sexual orientaion. The simple truth was it was just a completely random conjugation with my latest televisual experience at the time.Thank F**k , I wasn't watching Mary Poppins or zod only knows what name I would have chosen.
Well, there you have it , a very long answer to a very short question..........make of it what you will.

By the way , I have had to re-register as I have not used the h2g2 site for some time(see:out to lunch) which is why this reply will have a different username and researcher number, but I promise you its still me......emeraldcitizen
