Okay. Anime... frequently the slower and deeper ones: Lain, Boogiepop Phantom, Eva, Paranoia Agent (which I saw fansubbed at my university's Anime Society; it is due out in the U.K. though<simley>... And see my one and only Edited Entry at A2654787. On the other hand, I also like Excel Saga, though I probably prefer the manga to the anime. I do read manga sometimes, but when it comes to reading I mostly read prose.
So you want to be my friend? If by that you mean adding me to your Friends List, feel free; what it means in practice is that you get automatically subscribed to some long, rambling, largely meaningless journal threads. (The reason you can't see any on my Personal Space is that I remove them once the threads have gone dead so my PS loads more quickly.) At least you asked, which is more than can be said for this mysterious OakHeart character; I just noticed I'd been added to his/her list, and it turns out the account was created in November 2003 and its owner has added three Researchers to his/her friends list without ever posting on site.
If you just meant 'can I help you find your way around?' then probably I can, though you'd have to tell me more specifically what you need to know. I see Feisor, the ACE who greeted you, has given you a link to what looks like a pretty good introductory page, so try that and see whether it answers your questions.
I probably ought just to point out F77636?thread=621063 , since moderation is more sensitive at the moment than it usually is on this particular topic.

Hang on... I just noticed you're on pre-mod. How the hang did you get pre-moderated after such a short time here?
^-^
EddyRandom Posted Apr 17, 2005
Er yer... o... i was under the impression that you would be less formal, if that makes any sense, and are u like a person that help creat this website? or am i talking to someone who's 35? ahhh i don't know what the f*** i meen but anyway. I havn't heard of those amime programs ^-^... i like reading manga as well and at the minute im reading Psychic Acadame. I watch: Naruto, Big O, Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball Z, stuff like that. And as for manga movies, Spirited Away, Ghost in the Shell, Matropolis, Akira, Cowboy Bebop the movie etc.
Oh and i don't know how i got pre-moderated (i think thats what i meen?) and...er yer *_0 .......
^-^

I don't think I am at all less formal than the ACEs (and I'm the type of pedantic anime fan who as a matter of principle would never use a term like 'manga movies'); and unlike them I don't have volunteer status, so as far as helping create the site goes I'm just an ordinary researcher. The administrative/editorial staff are distingiushed by having their names displayed in bold italics, so they're easy to spot; volunteers have badges on their Personal Spaces (if you view them in a Brunel skin, the one with the rivets). You can ask just about anyone questions and hopefully people will be ready to help you out.
I told the staff about your Personal Space's being seemingly stuck in a 'waiting to be approved' state; it sould have been checked and either passed or failed by now. But the problem seems to have persisted; you might try updating it and seeing whether that changes anything.
Seriously, don't expect me to be more informal than the ACEs; probably the reverse is true. (The anime I listed are all pretty intellectual, with the exception of Excel Saga, which requires extensive notes to explain all the Japanese cultural references.) I don't mind your asking me questions about the Guide, or indeed talking to me about anime & manga, but don't assume that 'anime fan' = 'relaxed'; some of us are obsessive s, and I'm the obsessive who while debating the significance of Paranoia Agent's plot once devised a Buddhist-cum-existentialist analysis of it. Be afraid, be very afraid, etc.
OK
EddyRandom Posted Apr 18, 2005
Right, sorry about that. It's just that i have to remind myself that everyones different and that i havn't met all of the different personalaties out there yet. I like to keep an open mind. ^-^
Anyway,
Well i wasn't awere that there were any interlectual anime, but now that you've mentioned them I'm now chekin them out on the net. At my sixthform i have a small group of friends that like anime and manga and we're always looking for some new stuff to get into. Like just recently we've been hunting down something called FLCL, it looks good and the reviews say that it's excellent so we're just waiting untill it comes out on Toonami. We're all planing to go to Japan next year to the anime expo. I still have to figure out how to get over there first since my bank balance isn't quite high enough.^-^ Well that's far too much dribble i've just written down so yer. ^-^
OK
RFJS__ - trying to write an unreadable book, finding proofreading tricky Posted Apr 18, 2005
I've seen half of FLCL. It's... interesting, once one's got onto its wavelength.
Regarding 'intellectual anime', they tend not to be _obviously_ intellectual, but some have a lot more potential for deep analysis. Neon Genesis Evangelion is probably the most notorious in this respect, since it actually does draw from Judeo-Christian thought and Freudian psychology. Serial Experiments Lain is also pretty notorious for provoking 'What the hang does it all _mean_?' questions, and analyses like http://www.cjas.org/~leng/open.htm
Of course, looking into anime & manga involves taking account of Japanese culture, which is elaborate enough in itself.

Wow you've seen FLCL! Kool ^-^. I've looked up Lain and its looks very interesting, I've now got one of my friends to go on ebay and buy it for me. I've looked at the others you mensioned and Excel Saga seems very funny. Randomness is great...yer...
Oh yer I've always wanted to know: what's it like in univercity? Is it hard? Do you get lodes of course work? Are people nice? Just I have to choose a uni to go to soon. ^-^

RFJS__ - trying to write an unreadable book, finding proofreading tricky Posted Apr 19, 2005
I said I'd seen _half_ of FLCL; goodness knows whether I'll ever see the other half.
Be warned: Lain is... difficult. Watch the first volume before committing to buying the rest.
Okay, in order: it's a lot less restrictive than school, but you've got to be more independent; whether it's hard depends on what you're doing and where, but it certainly can be hard, especially if you like the subject enough to push yourself; in general arts and humanities students get a lot less set work than scientists, but we're expected to do a lot of reading; and people are people, some nice, some not.

Thanx will do.
I'm trying to figure out something: how come on my message board I can see that the last time you wrote your message it was 13 hours ago, in reply to my message that I wrote 11 hours ago? I mean, when are you singned in to h2g2? 'cos the timeings don't work out. Are you in a different time zone? There's something wrong here 0_*
lol
RFJS__ - trying to write an unreadable book, finding proofreading tricky Posted Apr 20, 2005
The timings I see seem to be okay. Since they're based on how long ago a post was made, I assume the client computer's clock isn't involved. It _possibly_ may have something to do with the fact that there are servers in both London and New York, but I suspect it's just a glitch.
By the way, when you create posts do you see them straight away, or do you see a 'queued for moderation' message instead? They seem to be appearing pretty quickly, and I'm wondering whether you actually are on pre-mod or whether your PS was set to display the wrong message.
lol
EddyRandom Posted Apr 21, 2005
qued for moderation message, but i've only done it once so far. I tried to make another entry when I was as sixthform but I ran out of time to finish it and I lost all the work i'd done. It was most stressful I can tell you. ^-^
I'll do another instead. Make it funny, random, etc...
^-^ lol

'i've only done it once so far.'
That presumably applies to Entries, not posts in this conversation. If you are on pre-mod your posts here should initially display the 'queued' message too.
^-^
EddyRandom Posted Apr 21, 2005
O sorry, no it dosn't say 'queued' message, I don't think I'm on pre-mod. I can't find anything that would indicate that. I just see if there are any new messages and read them I don't have much time to do anything else.
^-^
RFJS__ - trying to write an unreadable book, finding proofreading tricky Posted Apr 21, 2005
Well your Personal Space is hidden, so my guess is that it's been failed by the mods but somehow ended up displaying the 'queued' message rather than the 'hidden' one. You _should_ be able to get it to display by rewriting it and updating.
