Thank You.

Dear Irene

The 115th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery, was one of the twenty-two HAA regiments attached to 21 Army Group, which was formed in the UK on 9 July 1943. The 21st Army Group, commanded by General Bernard L. Montgomery, consisted of the 2nd Army (commanded by Lt. Gen. Miles C. Dempsey, and formed of 1, 8, 12, and 30 Corps), and First Canadian Army. See here http://www.ra39-45.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/haa/page77.html

For the Normandy Landings (D-Day) 21st Army Group was a tighter formation under Montgomery, consisting of U.S. First Army, commanded by Lt. Gen. Ormar Bradley (consisting of U.S. VII Corps commanded by Maj. Gen, J. Lawton Collins, and U.S. V Corps, commanded by Maj. Gen. L. T. Gerow. The British 2nd Army consisted of British XXX Corps, commanded by Lt. Gen. G. C. Bucknall, and British I Corps, commanded by Lt. Gen. J. T. Crocker.

Specific Army Group troops are used in a variety of roles such as Army Group HQ defence or to lend support at divisional, corps, or brigade level, where required, or as reserve formations. For example, a battery of 115 HAA Regiment was in support of operations of 1 Canadian Corps in Holland, 15 March-5 May 45 detailed here: http://www.forces.gc.ca/hr/dhh/Downloads/ahq/ahq039.PDF

I do not know of any books which specifically mention 115 HAA, RA., but there are many, of course, which feature 21st Army Group. Any covering the war from D-Day to the end in NW Europe.

Regards,

Peter
