The Willow Tree
Chad H Started conversation Dec 6, 2003
This is a poem I wanted to submit into a contest, but it was about twice as long as the maximum length. A Pitty.
As far as Im concerned, its fiction, There is no willow tree, there is no girl, there was no fight, there are no children, but Im sure someone out there will claim it is an accurate account of their relationship with someone, so I make it clear, I dont know anyone who this could be about.
But Hopefully, all couples have a place as special as the willow tree.
I remember that time we did meet
Under the leaves of the willow Tree
The Welcoming limbs kept us dry
From the stings of the storms cry
Special to us both as fate would be
This tree isnt just a place for me
Reflecting back on those long nights
Dinner, a movie, then the willow tree
The stars above for us alone did shine
Ignoring the rest of the worlds loud whine
A very sacred place for us two alone
Both Wishing this was truly our home
It feels like it wasnt that long ago
Weekends together ment the willow tree
The days were long and full of fun
Like two halves together we were one
Our friends often called us obssessed
But We knew we were better than the rest
I do recall that very frightfull day
We fought benieth our willow tree
The bumps, the buises and other scars
Then drinking alone is seedy bars
T'was my saddest day, without a doubt
I still cannot recall what it was about
How about the day the workmen came?
To cut down that same willow tree
Bitter Quarrels we both put aside
Alas, we together couldn't turn the tide
A blood soaked seed I managed to pocket
You still had my picture in your locket
Now we watch our children merrily play
Dancing underneith the willow tree
The seed was symbolic of our bond
With time we only grew more fond
The sun goes down, the winds get cold
I know our love will never grow old
