Bah, humbug!
Snailrind Posted Jan 6, 2004
"i watched the final when england won"
Pah! They just got a lucky break.
I've never seen the appeal of cricket. Apart from the radio commentators: they have so much time in which nothing happens that their talk takes on a surreal edge as they try to find stuff to say.
Capitol and Reprise, you say? I wonder if I've heard any of the songs from that time. I'll have to keep an ear out.
Ah yes, good old Kirk and his evil space-bimbettes: "what is this Earth thing you call kissing?" And I swear some of those tribbles were hamsters.
I met Dr Who on the beach once, when I was eleven. (Jon Pertwee.) I went over and said, "hello, Worzel Gummidge," and he gave me a signed photo. I didn't know about autographs, so I was a bit surprised by it.
Bah, humbug!

he was a nice man was jon pertwee thats what i heard anyway.i loved worsel gummidge and aunt sally and who was that man who made worsel ?. got all the star trek videos with kirk and crew musta watched them a dozen times.
Bah, humbug!
Snailrind Posted Jan 8, 2004
He seemed quite nice: did his Worzel Gummidge voice for me. He was also very drunk.
I'd forgotten about the guy who made the scarecrows. And wasn't there a decomposing straw scarecrow called Mildew? (Or was that just a dream?)
You've got all the videos? You *must* be a Trekkie! Don't they show them enough on TV?
Bah, humbug!
Boxing Baboon (half here an half there ) Posted Jan 8, 2004
yeah and worzel went to new zealand i use to think people who drank alot shouldnt. im starting to understand why now if you get my meaning. im not a drinker though .
Bah, humbug!
Snailrind Posted Jan 9, 2004
Well, I don't really get your meaning, but have a consoling anyway. Did you get drunk recently, then?
I've got an intolerance to alcohol, myself. Like a fool, I had an alcopop on New Year's Day, and I've been sick as a dog since.
Bah, humbug!
Boxing Baboon (half here an half there ) Posted Jan 9, 2004
no i only drink at christmas and birthdays and then i dont drink much .if i have 2 drinks im drunk . so how long have you been on h2g2?
Bah, humbug!
Snailrind Posted Jan 9, 2004
I suppose you could get drunk very cheaply, then!
I came on here last September, I think. I was introduced to h2g2 by SEF, who seems to know everybody. Before that, I used to lurk around the BBC science messageboards a lot. What about you?
Bah, humbug!
Boxing Baboon (half here an half there ) Posted Jan 9, 2004
since may .ive had a look at the bbci stuff about space very interesting indeed . what sort of science you into then?
Bah, humbug!
Snailrind Posted Jan 9, 2004
My favourite boards were the science Q&A and the evolution ones. Registering with h2g2 locked me out of the other parts of the BBC site, so I haven't looked at them in ages. I've been thinking lately that I should risk having another go, though.
I find space awe-inspiring. It's just incredible what kinds of things go on out there. I saw a "star nursery" on a documentary once: a huge great thing that makes stars and churns them out in their billions. Well, stars are huge, so a star nursery must be, oh, incomprehensibly enormous!

are you on digi box then? i really like the space stuff info about planets and pictures of their moons .
Bah, humbug!
Snailrind Posted Jan 10, 2004
Do you think we'll ever manage to populate another planet?
Bah, humbug!
Boxing Baboon (half here an half there ) Posted Jan 10, 2004
you mean mars ? nope cause the planet is to inhospitble to human beings .we may visit there thoughugh
Bah, humbug!
Snailrind Posted Jan 10, 2004
Not necessarily Mars. But Mars isn't that far off being hospitable, as I recall. If we could just melt the icecaps and plant a bit of greenery, it could be quite cosy.
Oh, and I don't have a digibox. BBCi is just full of bugs.
Bah, humbug!
Boxing Baboon (half here an half there ) Posted Jan 10, 2004
and we could use the energy from the winds witch blow overwhelming fast
if not mars witch other planets you thinking of? mars aint to far away really .its not a bad place to live there places worse of than mars in the solar system . i read it can reach up 27c in the summer
Bah, humbug!
Snailrind Posted Jan 10, 2004
Wow--I didn't realise it could get so warm! But how cold is it in the winter? I'll need to know this kind of thing when I'm packing my luggage. The winds might be a problem, though. Perhaps living underground would be the answer.
I've heard that Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, is considered a good bet for supporting life.
Bah, humbug!
Boxing Baboon (half here an half there ) Posted Jan 10, 2004
thats what i read about how hot it can get -100 in the winter though .its cause mars aint got any atmosphere what about living in a huge dome ? like the film total recall .and i wouldnt think jupiters moon.would have much light though.
Bah, humbug!
Snailrind Posted Jan 11, 2004
Whaddaya know--Bush has just announced plans to build a manned base on the moon and then another one on Mars. Interestingly, he didn't say anything about getting the astronauts back to Earth....
Bush isn't exactly my favourite person in the world, but I approve of his support of space exploration. (Perhaps it'll distract him from trying to take over *this* planet!)
Bah, humbug!
Snailrind Posted Jan 14, 2004
My beloved wishes to stick an oar into this conversation, to say: "hang on... if Mars has no atmosphere, then how can it have wind?"
(And don't say "too many beans", because I already tried that and didn't get a laugh.)
