Welcome new friend, and a fellow Mahleria sufferer too!!

I am so glad that my Entries to hootoo are as appreciated by so many people as they seem to be.

My knowledge of this remarkable man has accumulated over more than 4 decades. What started as a keen interest became a passion and is now, I have to recognise, something of an obsession.

For the past 10 years I have been piecing together a day-by-day, sometimes hour-by-hour life diary of Gustav Mahler. It is a strange feeling to know more about what somebody else did on a day-to-day basis than I do about myself or my family.

I don't know whether you have already spotted it, but I also wrote a short story for the Underguide. If you haven't, you can read it at A12654209

Hi fellow Mahleria sufferer!!

I think I would like this to be my music thread!!.

I have written to you on the other one, but it would be nice to keep this specifically for music - if you approve.

I am so thrilled that you have had two super articles printed. You write so beautifully and have such a deep and profound knowledge of your subject that you make Mahler live again for us all.

I must get some cd's for my radio and so I can go back to listening to my music. I am obliged to listen to both the radio and the TV with headphones on, as I am very deaf. I keep thinking of how totally ghastly it must have been for Beethoven. My brother, who is a psychiatrist has a biography on Beethoven coming out next Spring. when he sent me the first draft I was quite harsh on him as he writes it from a medical point of view and was critical of Beethoven.
How poor Ludwig managed to produce such sublime music when he never heard a note of what he composed remains, for me. the ultimate achievement of making the most of this precious gift.
