"I was also hopeless at team sports, last to get picked etc, may not have done me any permanent harm but made much of my time at school a misery"
Was sport the only reason though? My schooldays were pretty miserable, but the fact that I nearly always came last, couldn't play footy or rugger or cricket for toffee, and was generally an all-round weed played very little part in that since competitive sport meant almost nothing to me.

sport was the main thing I disliked at school
I enjoyed many of the lessons, learnt how to deal with bullies (make a joke out of things, people rarely hit you if they're laughing at you)
solved the problem eventually
in my last 3 years I hardly went to any games lessons at all
