Yes just another unstructured, incoherent mumbling from yours truly.
My complaint for today is the belief that Scottish people(Glaswegians in particular) have been stereotyped by the rest of the planet as being either criminals, thiefs or generally nasty people. It is also implied that we are mean.Wrong.The Scottish generosity was reflected only just recently with their contributions to the Tsunami disaster, but that aside I have come across people meaner than your average Scotsman on many an occasion
Criminals,~this may well be true of the minority, as is of any major city! All I know is that I'm not one of these people.
I'm Glaswegian, you may have noticed from my posts or personal space, and I'm just here to say that I am (scunnered) sick to the back teeth of people who have no real true foundation to infer or inflict implications such as this on an entire nation of people.
Discuss..?

Arty, you're completely wrong.
We were talking about Edinburgh, not Glasgow
Seriously though, mate, the world owes a lot to the Scottish nation. Shall we invite people to post the names of some eminent Scots?
I'll start with James Watt (born in Greenock)...

Firstly can I say I'm not wrong. It's a popluar misconception and belief held by many ignorant people worldwide.
I could make a list as long as my arm of eminent Scots Icy.This was not the purpose of my post

Even though it wasn't your intention to start a list of great Scotsmen, I agree with Icy North Let's put the smile back on Arti's face and for a bit of fun I nominate John Logie Baird for the television

I've never heard about Scots being mean or nasty or criminals, and even if - I hate generalizations, it's the same as if you'd say that all Germans are Nazis - it's just not true.

And it annoys me when people describe all Englishmen as sterile, bumbling upper-class twits
I may be, and most of my friends too, but that's not a statistically significant sample.

I'm inclined to start a counter-thread : Scotsmen and women who have given the world something it didn't really want.
Example number 1 - John Napier, who invented logarithms. (Thanks for all that pleasure at school, John)

There is nowhere that I have been in the world where there hasn't been a thriving Caledonian Society and "Burns Night" is obligatory. If all the Scotsmen 'went' home, you would have a serious overcrowding problem up there.
Key: Complain about this post
