How are you tonight?

p.s I am literally sizzling here tonight........am in work and it's like a sauna .......why is it in Britain we can never get aircon that works????

Yeah know what you mean...we've got a weird set-up where I work: half the people are from "forrin" and complain that it's too cold with the AC on, so open the windows.

We're supposed to have air-conditioning in the office but at the moment we've got windows open and a battalion of fans going cos as usual the air-con is ed!!!

Where are you from then?

I live and work in London, but we have a pretty diverse department (Argentinian, South African, Italian, Nigerian, Croatian...and some English people )

Sounds pretty cosmopolitan to me .......I lived in London for about 8yrs quite a while ago now and also lived and worked in S.Africa for 3 yrs ........that was in my younger days and I was a croupier!!!

So what do you do in this multinational office?

Hi, sorry didn't get back, just been in a long online discussion elsewhere!

I work for a specialist insurance company - we insure banks against losses on their mortgage loans. I'm the UK & Ireland analyst, which means I have to understand the mortgage markets in both countries, as well as being an economist and statistician. We operate in several European markets as well, but London is the European head office (of a US company) so we have quite a few Europeans and others in the office. My department is Risk management, but the same multilingual and multicultural thing applies across the business (in fact, I think ours is the only department that doesn't have an American in it!)

How about you?

.......nothing half as high powered as yours .......I work for directory enquiries in Cardiff finding phone numbers for a mixture of drunks, idiots, people who haven't even got a basic command of the English language and the downright rude!!! Saturday nights are the most fun Before doing this I was a merchandiser for a welsh crisp company and before that I was a full time Mum for 14 yrs .......probably the best job of the lot!

However, doing this job is not my lifetime ambition and I'm always looking out for something better

Well, if you're "lawn" needs "mowing" may I volunteer my services?

Well...........that depends on how much you charge and whether or not you keep your blades nice and sharp? I like a nice neat well trimmed lawn almost to the point of baldness!!!
