The status quo in Bergen?

Hi sweetie.

I just popped by to ask you a few concerned questions.

First: How are you doing these days? It was jolly nice to receive a Christmas-mail from you.

Second: What's that I hear, that there's been a major fire on Sotra? To me it is but a rumour, but Ole (boyfriend) and I drove there last year and it's hard to imagine the wonderful nature out there turned to charcoal. I wondered about it, and then I remembered that I actually knew a Bergen-ese to ask.

Third: What are you doing these days? My father-in-law asked and I had to admit not remembering what my "chum in Bergen" does for a living.

Fourth: Is the remaking of the Floyen (the askew-train thingie) finished? We tried that "greien" last year, but the top was too foggy to see anything but fog...

Hello dear! smiley - smiley

First day back at w*rk after a long and well deserved Easter holiday. We've had fantastic weather all week and we have all got a little colour in our winterpale faces. I was quite pooped before the holiday, due to an long undiscovered infection that I've struggled with a couple of months ( probably) followed by a week of eating the biggest antibiotic-pills in the world. Gah!

There have been several grass/forest fires in Bergen this week. The one on Sotra was one of the smaller, they got that one quickly under controll.

The one in Fana is still burning, but I think they'we got it under controll now. The air is smelling sharply of smoke though, and it's snowing ashes. smiley - weird

From my office, where I pretend to do the accounting and keeping the books for this little computer-consulting-firm that I've worked for the last five years, I can see that the new owners of the old pub next door are starting to put out tables and chairs. Yay! smiley - smiley

Fløybanen is running up and down the mountain side, the new cable-cars are gleaming red and blue in the sun. It's really lovely now, with the first rhododendrons in bloom.

I'M COMING! I'M COMING!

Oh no, I forget - my w*rk... You describe it so lovely that I almost have to come see for myself. *Sigh* I will, you know!

I knew you worked near the wharf, but I didn't remember with what. Accounting, eh? I guess it counts as a fringe benefit that that pub is putting out tables then.

I read about the fires now. Thanx for the link. Sheesh, all that forest-fire stuff sure is bad. We hav'em in Denmark too, but not nearly as naughty as you do in Bergen. Funny really, one would imagine that a place with that much rain would suffer far less from fires...

Imagine this: The other day, Ole looked at me, asking if we should travel to Bergen again this year. He really ASKED that... As if it was ever an issue of debate... Sheesh again. I just gave him the DOH-stare, which seemed to answer the question to him. The wharf, the sea and the route from Sørlandet across Hovden and Seljesdal - there's just no way I'm gonna NOT do that again. (And I just have to remind him of those smoked salmon sandwiches from the wharf, then he's both salivating and agreeing! smiley - winkeye)

Thanx for a quick reply. I'll keep an eye on that fire-thingy.

Let's hope there'll be rain soon then.

In our weatherforecast, they promise rain by the weekend. Meteorologically speaking, I don't suppose Bergen and Aalborg are THAT far apart...

Oh, and I just may take you up on that phonecall thingie. After all, I've heard that you have lotsa tables. smiley - tickle

Hi again, sweetie.

This is Sunday and I just remembered to do this - to enter another comment into this phorum. You see, this following Thursday, we are going from Hirtshals to Kristianssand by ferry and then onwards to ye good olde Grimstad. YAY!smiley - biggrin
And, as is rapidly becoming tradition, we ARE going to Bergen again, somewhere around 2nd week of July or so.

Any good council? Advice?

Can you tell us how to access the bl**** Atlantic Ocean? Last time, we spent four hours on Sotra, as I desperately (...) wanted to try an Atlantic dipper. But it was all either private, inaccesible or plain impossible. (Ole is in a wheelchair, the roads MUST go close.)
Pleeze help. (And cliffs? Not sand?)

Well, sad to find you not on-line. Unfortunately we leave with the early boat tomorrow (extremely) early, so I'll have to miss out on your otherwise profound advice.

I'm looking forward to see your city again, though. Probably somewhere during the second week of July. I'll remember to keep an eye open for you.

Best summer-wishes - and please PLEASE no RAIN!
