...that you have a recipe for dandelion liqueur. Is this true? smiley - wow

I have written an entry on dandelions, including some recipes, and I'd be happy to include yours too - with a credit, if you fancy that. smiley - smiley

The entry can be found here - A764543, and you can blame Ottox for name dropping. smiley - ok

It's true. smiley - smiley I'll go and get it for you later, I don't have my book here (at the office). Makeing dandelion liqueur is a lot of work, but then the end-product is Summer In A Bottle!
*Wanders off to see the article.*

hmm, how much work? The recipes that I have are nice and simple. (To match the author smiley - winkeye), if it's complicated it might be too tricky for me to understand.

Oops, I think I was thinking about the dandelion wine! Now that's a lot of work! The liqueur IS nice and easy! smiley - biggrin

Sorry about that, haven't had my coffee yet... smiley - coffee

Now where's my cup...

Has your cup got wine in it? smiley - laugh

Oh well, if it's easier than the wine, that's ok. I've managed to make the wine look simple. smiley - smiley Not that I've ever made it, I'm one of those rare people that can't grow enough dandelions to make it!

I'll look forward to seeing your recipe. smiley - ok

This should be easy enough don't you think?

Dandelion liqueur:

2 - 3 dl of only the yellow of the flowers
35 cl spirits (45%, 60% or plain vodka.)
2 dl sugar
juice of 1/2 lemon

Let it sit for a week. The colour is a clear and beautiful yellow and the taste is aromatic with a hint of bitterness. smiley - smiley

If you have to have it in imperial mesures you'll have to convert it yourself. I've never got the hang of cups and barrels or whatever it is... smiley - winkeye

I can convert it, if I knew what a dl was?

dl - Desi liter - 0.1 liter.

Linda, I looked at the dandelion wine recipe. You may want to be more spesific on what part of the flower to use. It's only the yellow part of the flower here as well.... I have first hand experience with wine made with the whole flower, green stuff and all. A friend of mine thought it was too much work to just use the yellow stuff, and ended up with a wine that never cleard, tasted very strange, and made all the guest end up on the floor dissolved in tears at 4 o'clock in the morning. It's now refered to as the Psyco-wine... Seems like there was more than just alcohol at work in that brew!

All the recipes that I found said that it was ok to use the sepals as well - but not the stems.

I'll change it though, as you have had experience. smiley - smiley

Excperience and excperience... At least this (first and last) project failed brilliantly! I was so "fortunate" that I had a stomach bug at the time, so I stuck with my own drink (normal dry white wine) that night, so I was the only one that didn't sit shivvering and smiley - hangover the morning after. smiley - laugh

Hi again,

I'm sorry, but I can't convert the measures, I'm having real trouble. I think it's because I am a) unfamiliar with these terms, and b) crap at maths.

I'm going to have to leave it out I'm afraid. Sorry about that. smiley - sadface

For later use, may I recommend http://www.digitaldutch.com/unitconverter/

35 centiliters is 0,62 UK pints or 12,3 fluid ounces (uk)
3 desilitres is 0.53 pint, or 10,55 ounces.

Ah, that might help! I'll check out the website when I get into work tomorrow.

I was having trouble with 0s and .s. I got very confused. And Ashley was no help to be honest, pointing out an h2g2 entry that made me worse. smiley - laugh
