Trombone
Posted Feb 16, 2000
It's a funny business, music. We all listen to the stuff yet Lee, a friend who plays trombone professionally, isn't exactly overburdened with work. This weekend may have marked a turning point - he's just got a job playing on the big luxury cruise liners. Departing at the end of April we're not going to see him for over 6 months while he takes in Vancouver, The Carribbean, The Panama Canal and Alaska (and back again). I think we're all going to miss him. What's more to the point is that he still has two of my Douglas Adams books...
Anything else of interest today? Monday's review went well and I got 1 valentine's card and haven't a *clue* who it's from. Don't you just hate it when that happens? (not, it has to be said, that it's happened to me before).

Birthday

To be honest, yes it was pretty good. Better than my 21st. Got 5 cards (4 of which are silly - people know me *too* well!), an online party, an offline drink, a record three birthday kisses from the drama society female and an argument about anorexics. Why do people only argue with me post-alcohol? I'm far more interesting to talk to sober.

Cambridge

What a funky city Cambridge is! Just got back from visiting my sister there. So cultured. Going to the theatre last night and watching A Midsummer Night's Dream today just seemed appropriate to being in Cambridge, along with going into bookshops and listening to Rachmaninov. Being brainy just seems to come naturally there - try that in most other cities and you get funny looks. On the other hand, some people seem over-brained, but that's rare. I'm in awe at the rest (ie. those who don't shout 'hey I'm better than you you Poly student').
Train there was still as naff as ever though. Was terribly English and chatted to someone only when we lost our driver... I really am becoming a terrible hypocrite over this Talking on Trains thing.
