The reason someone is said to commit suicide it a very simple one. In fact you have already answered it. Because it is\was considered a crime you'd commit suicide in the same way you'd commit a murder, which is how suicide was vieved for a long time, the crime of self murder.

i thought it was becuase if you did it, you was pretty much commited to it, its not somthing ya can change your mind about later... sorry if this isnt a serious enough post.
