Greetings! I have not led such an interesting life as your self, but I have a copy of "The Book Of Five Rings", which I partially understand,(I think) so I am aware of your use of the name. Not had any military service myself, but I did work as a civi contractor for a time, to the British Army. Didn't like what I saw, much, grown men being treated like children for the most part. I did have a stand up row with a full colonel once. Well, I was a bit stroppy as a kid, and I was in the right! Have to admit that the Army has made a good showing when they had to.
Britain is in the grip of a wave of hoplophobia at the moment, everthing other than airguns banned, or under such difficult licencing laws it's not worth the trouble. People can't see that you cannot legislate against lunatics.
Much of H2G2 seems to be a chatline, but there are some funny threads. Alien Abduction was good, but I think it's getting stale now.
See you around the System!

I am very much into the whole Edo Era period of Japan's history. Maybe that is why I have remained here for the past 10 years. I truely enjoy reading about it, and if you are interested there are a couple of books I recommend to all. They are by Eiji Yoshikawa and are: MUSASHI and TAIKO. Excellent.
As for modern society....Is there really hope? Everyone seems to have a solution, but when it all boils down to it is is just a matter of Common Sense. Kind of funny but I was watching a special on Cars last night and they were reviewing the topic of SAFETY. Take both the UK and the US. Despite knowing that people were being killed in accidents, people refused to wear seatbelts. Was it because they felt they were being "Told" to do it by the Government and that their lack of response was a way of being rebellious? Or was it just plain stupidity? Again Lack of Common Sense. For example. Labor Day Weekend (US) 1969, 29 military people were killed in Vietnam. That same weekend, 614 people were killed in Automobile accidents. What sense does that make? I think this can be pretty much applied to anything that "Humans" do with no thought.

I find nothing surprising about the stupidity of the Human Race. The UK seems to excel at it, just look at our Government. Where I work, we have a Staff Consultative meeting, where people can submit questions to the bosses. Someone asked at the last one, how much of a bonus for the Millenium would we be getting, and another asked how much extra holiday? This is a small company of about 100 staff!
I am the Quality Manager, and when I contact suppliers to inform them that they've made something wrong, they always say;"Does that mean you can't use it then?"
I'd heard of the Labour Day figures before. People still get pulled for not wearing seat belts over here.
