Mr H may have been dead ages but he's still one of the finest guitarists in history. Better than Eric Clapton? Let's start a debate!

Clearly, easily, monumentally better than Clapton. Hendrix played guitar differently, and also happened to be a pretty kickass writer. The same guy writing hard shit like Fire and Voodoo Chile, turns around and writes butterflies and zebras and moonbeams and, uh, fairy tales, slow and beautiful songs just as powerful as his loud, fast songs.
This debate is way too easy. Here's a grittier topic: Who was a worse singer, Clapton or Hendrix? I might have to go with Hendrix on this one, but not by a lot.

I suppose the only thing I've got in my favour is that Clapton is still alive to play more beautiful songs, though his latest album was a bit of a disappointment.
Clapton had a great voice before it broke in '74. It was still pretty good then, but nowadays sounds a little strained. All his brilliantness must be catching up on him.

No, being alive is always a detriment to artists. It's always better when they're dead.
"All his BRILLIANTNESS" catching up with Clapton? Oh, yeah, that must be it.

Dead misicians have a habit of being able to sell lots of records. It's only until it's too late that people actually realise how great they are (usually).
Did I spell brilliantness wrong? Shouldn't it be 'brilliEntness'?

Im inclined to agree with Subcom. You cant sell out or start making s**t music if youre dead.
