My company
Posted Aug 16, 1999
No, not who I work for, the new buisness me and a few others are starting. We have roughly 6 employees, though we haven't refined our exact job titles or who all is for sure staying with us. I've been listening to people say that they wanted to start their own buisness for most my life, but I never really thought of it myself. When I did I was amazed to see how many people wanted to work with me. I don't know who's actually going to own it, most likely either this other guy or me. The only thing I want to avoid is the accounting and payroll part ;} The rest of it I can handle.
"Yes Yes, but what do you do??" - Well, we make web pages ;} Our first project is the site for the local Family and Youth Counseling Agency out of Lake Charles LA, but I'll also be adding the sites I've already done to the list of examples, but not until after I redo Archflambeoth a bit. Beyond that I hope to be able to make the page for United Way of Southwest Louisiana(from what my sources say their developers just quit) and Sowela Technical College of Lake Charles LA, plus a site for someone who is an agent of three different companies, and wants a different site for each of them(probably with a splash screen with links to each of them.) and of course we'll have to make a site for our new company.
Hey you never know, if this picks up I might be able to quit my current job with no worries ;}

New Job Opportunities!
Posted Aug 11, 1999
I got a call yesterday from a computer software company from Dallas. The guy offered me $60,000 a year to program in Delphi - something I like to do anyway. Just for the record that's almost 5 times what I'm making now... I know, I'm nuts for passing it down, but I'm not quite ready to move just yet, but I did keep their number.
Today I got my second Official web page design client! And the first one to have their own Domain name! So I've been in a pretty hoopy mood for the last few hours. It's the "Family and Youth Counseling Agency, Inc." - an affiliate of the Untied Way. I looked at the United Way website earlier and I know that this new site will blow it out of the water with bits and pieces floating around in an irregular pattern. I'll put the link up here(and probably everywhere else) once it's presentable for ya'll to check out my awesome web design talents(or lack there of... we'll just have to wait and see).
On someone else's hand, I've been serving as the liason between a potential employee(a lady I met at school) and Betty(my boss). I think she'll do pretty good, but when I stopped and thought about it I'll probably look really bad if she doesn't. So she'd better do good ;}

Book Update
Posted Aug 10, 1999
Freaks' Thoughts - I've been trying to get it into WaldenBooks so long, that I haven't really been looking around other places much. When I did a search on Barnes&Noble's website though, I found that my book was already there! I did a similar search on Borders.com (the company WaldenBooks belongs too) and it showed up there too, so I spent some time sunday making long distant phone calls to every Borders and Barnes&Noble bookstore in Louisiana, and a few in Texas. All but about two of them said they'd order some!(the other two said call back on a weekday)
So pretty soon Freaks' Thoughts will be carried in lots of stores instead of just two ;}
Mumbles - As soon as my comp wakes up from its Nightmares(or at least my Nightmares) then I'll have a ton of work to do on Mumbles. It is looking pretty good so far as I think I'll be able to pull in at least 15 different authors for the work. And that's not even including half of those who were in the first book!(there were 12) Perhaps this Poetry thing will kick off...
The Voices - While this was to be a project just within my group of friends, I have yet to see a story from any of them, even Harlequin who said she'd already written one. I read a story of someone I meet off the net and I think she'd make a wonderful addition, so I think I'm going to have to expand my list of acceptable authors.
Destiny-N-Dreams - Hopefully my first novel isn't dead yet... I don't think I've even worked on it once this year.. I'm making a mental note now to pick it up again when I quit.

My Job
Posted Aug 4, 1999
I've decided that I'm going to quit.
I have a job in which they expect me to use Visual Basic to fix some programs that they've created, and not only do I not like VB, but the best solution I can think of to fix those programs is use something other than VB in the first place.
I'm thinking of becoming a full time web designer... but I need people to design pages for if I plan to get paid.
I'd love to get into a creative environment in which I can use my Delphi skills to create new and inspirational software, but there's nothing like that in my area, and not too many companies are open to doing business over the net.
Perhaps I'll just get some small job where I work 20 hours a week and spend all my time at home doing all those nifty computer things I love. Who knows, maybe I can even start my own software company if I can create a few really good programs ;}
Perhaps I can get a contract to keep up the Telnet application I made for the company.. and for sure I'm going to make a generic version that I can release over the net, I'll just have to change it enough to get through that statement in my contract...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
