Hiya! I had the same intention with you and several other people - the London meets are a bit hectic nowadays!

I was glad to see Dominic joining in too - he looked happy and quite at home at the h2g2 meet, we'll make a researcher out of him yet . My brother's wife gave birth last week so no doubt I'll be fully educated with the joys of baby care before long.

Congratulations to your brother and sister-in-law. Great news about your engagement too

When I was working from home the other day, I let Dom do his very first entry, it was a masterpiece, I can tell you!

One of the bits of software we have at work provides sounds and flashing pictures/colours on keypresses... it's wonderful for budding keyboardists. The results are always works of art

Fiona and I are thinking of all kinds of interesting things to try with Dan when we meet him. One thing we saw on TV the other day was letting newborn babies swim underwater - apparently they naturally know what to do, having floated about in the womb for the majority of their existence. It looks fun, but I might have trouble convincing my sister-in-law that it's a good idea

I plan to cause all kinds of trouble when he's old enough to be influenced by me

Ooo - I went swimming with Dom when he was two months old (after his first injections). New babies really do swim, it's incredible and in fact they know that they should hold their breath underwater until they're about 6 months old. Amazing!

I wonder why they forget to hold their breath in the end?

Must be fascinating, being a baby... I wish I could remember it. They must have such an interesting outlook on life. I heard the other day that babies/toddlers get upset when you take an object away from them, because they haven't learnt what is them and what isn't them yet, and so think that you're taking part of themselves away.

That reminds me, I once met a psychiatrist who was convinced that all his patient's mental problems came from bad birth experiences!

I got to hear Dan for the first time over the phone last night... Tink was highly amused, she reckons I went all paternal!

Dom definitely gets cross when I take things away from him (usually because they're dangerous) but I thought it was because he hadn't quite finished working out what it was and just got annoyed!
