Terrapins bad habits

Whilst showing my father my collection of red eared terrapin, The larger of the three reached out and took the
fag he was smoking straight out of his hand and into his shell,the terrapin was duly dunked into the washing up sink
to stop himself from being burnt.
Is this a sign of bad habits forming in captive terrapins or do they smoke in the wild.
