Star Trek or Star Wars

I do enjoy them both. I don't know if I like one over the other. Their are versions of Star Trek that I like better. Such as Next Generation over DS9 any day of the week. Voyager and Enterprise aren't quite as good but they are still enjoyable. I believe that the attraction is that Star Trek is "our future" and the things that appear on the show have come into reality a bit. Such as hyposprays and Palm pilots mimmicking their message pads. And you can't not enjoy the insanity of the original Trek where every "Red Shirt" on an away mission bites the dust in one way or the other.

Star Wars I love just because it was more Raw and you had the same characters. Besides, it has the Force which borders on the Magical and I think appeals to both the Sci-Fi geeks such as myself and the Fantasy buffs of which I am one also. But that is just my opinion on it.

I think another thing that Star Wars has as an appeal is the mythic/epic feel. Star Wars feels as if it is going for grander issues of Good and Evil (even though it is in simplistic terms). Star Trek is more morally relativistic, and is often more concerned with issues of how the individual interprets good and evil. I think that Star Wars is all about grand themes while Star Trek is about individual lives.

Peersonally, I like them both. It's like one is chocolate and the other is strawberry... it just depends on which flavor I'm in the mood for!

I prefer Star Wars simply becaus it's more entertaining and imaginative, plus has more realistic ships and environments and more realistic aliens, whereas Star Trek is, to a great degree, about politcs. I'm not saying Trek is bad, just that I prefer Wars.

Star Wars is more violent that Star Trek
Star Trek has an idealistic view of the future and this can't be bad.
All of the episodes have what could almost be termed morals.
Good overcomes evil and even if it doesn't, it has a jolly good go at it.
It explores people and humanity whereas Star Wars, is about just that, wars. I know this is relevant stuff to the 21st Century but I prefer Star Trek as it is more gentle and gives you things to think about. If more people in this world were more like Jeanluc Picard, or Deanna Troy, the world would be a nicer place to live. smiley - peacesign

OK, but one thing: the (original) SW trilogy kept improving, also Attack of the Clones is better than The Phantom Menace, whereas ST has tended to deteriorate with each new incarnation.

Personally I prefer The next generation to the original star trek, but yes, Voyager and Deep Space nine leave a lot to be desired. Expecially DS9. It's boring.

I like both one (trek) for it's peaceful vision of the future and the other (wars) for its raw grittiness and closer to the true vision of what the future may be I like both for the pure escapism they offer

You've hit the nail on the head. I still prefer wars, though.
