It's been so long since I succeeded in doing anything moderately complex that I had forgotten how good it feels! 
Specifically, I fitted the 64GB SSD I had into a SATA shell, then fitted that into an external USB drive housing, connected that to my MacBook and cloned the boot drive onto it. I then dismantled the MacBook, in a way that was subtly different from what the online resources said should happen, replaced the boot drive with the SSD and then managed to lock it in place with sticky pads. It all reassembled properly, boots well and feels noticeably more responsive. 
About halfway through George turned up to collect a Dragon EPROM blower; I persuaded him to take away my old USB NAS device too, so that's two fewer things cluttering up the living room. 
Er1c called too, but as I was fast asleep when he rang I wasn't really taking in anything he said... 
I 'phoned Mother in the morning. 
She's still in hospital, and between the hospital 'phone which hasn't been "turned up" as much as her home one, and ITV children's TV blaring in the background because some "helpful" nurse thought it would be a good idea 
she just couldn't hear me. While I was talking she would keep interjecting with "Hello? HELLO? Are you still there?" 
She doesn't sound too good. 
She's hoping they'll let her go home, but they won't until she agrees to take a hospital bed with her and let nurses come round daily. She doesn't want that, but they're wearing her down. 
I've been watching the "Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries". Only one more episode of season one to go; I'll have that when the food* is cooked. 
(*Bacon, black pudding and beans, in the oven... 
I need to make as much space in the 'fridge as I can before my food delivery tomorrow morning...
