A good day out

I just about got myself awake for 9am, and finished copying the Doctor Who DVD while I listened to Broadcasting House and cooked breakfast.
Doug and Sue turned up at 10am, and we headed off to pick up Dagesh. We took him on the "Grand Tour" of Aberdeen; the Brig'O'Balgownie, the beach, Fittie, Torry and Duthie Park. We had a wander round the Winter Gardens (well, they did - I tried to take a nap in the cactus house, but two brats decided to turn the path into their own personal racetrack and run round and round squealing. ) then headed out to Stonehaven for a couple of drinks and a bite of lunch.
After Stonehaven, we headed back into Aberdeen to get some ice cream from Baskin-Robbins, then headed out to the airport by the "scenic route". This invvolved visiting the old Aberdeen TB hospital (where, allegedly, Dan Archer took his last breath) and a bit of a trek through the Agri. college's grounds, where we found a stranded car by the roadside. Two guys had managed to run their car into the ditch; we helped to get them in contact with a garage, then headed to the airport.
We dropped Dagesh off, then headed to Lidl for a spot of retail therapy... My best purchase was 5 litres of bleach for 69p. My white tee-shirts may soon actually be white again...
I also treated myself to a bottle of fortified wine.
A good day out

"Fortified British wine" - it's borderline undrinkable wine that has extra alcohol added to mask the taste. Described as "Full Cream" (?) - "Rich and Dark in colour with a full-bodied taste."
It's £1.85 for a 70cl bottle at 15% ABV; it gets you drunk.

Trust me, Martine, you really do NOT want to know this ... oops! I see Peet has already told you! See what I mean?

Saw this in Doug's journal too, but it has only just sunk in - which Dan Archer are we talking about here? If you mean Phil's dad, didn't he die at home in his favourite armchair, where someone (Lizzie?) discovered him? I have a vague memory of hearing this episode.

Hence the "allegedly"... Doug was in full flow, so I didn't want to contradict him. I suspect he meant the actor who played Dan. No doubt he'll post to clarify...
A good day out

Aaaaargh... It was Jack Archer, Peggy's first husband, not Dan. I definitely read that a TA family member died of TB in Aberdeen. Not Dan. Jack.

Aaah! Jack - OK. Didn't know about the TB, just that he was an alcoholic.

Incidentally, iirc, a teenage Lizzie found Dan dead in a ditch, where he'd fallen in while trying to rescue a sheep from some barbed wire.
