This morning my stomach wasn't feeling too good, so after listening to "Broadcasting House" I spent a couple of hours sitting on the toilet. On the plus side, I managed to get through another two chapters of "Thomas Covenant".
In the afternoon, George popped by and sold me an 80 Gig HDD. Then, he gave me a lift to Andy's to pick up a new(ish) motherboard, and finally gave Andy and I a round-trip lift to the supermarket, where I picked up a couple of gallons of fizzy soft drinks.
I fitted the new motherboard into the COGS PC and it fired up first time! Unfortunately, although the processor was running, the motherboard has no idea what sort it is. It needs a BIOS update, and (long story omitted for berevity) I can't do that at the moment.
The downstairs neighbour played music all day. Not too loud at first, but by 10:05pm it was beating up through the floor, and I called the Police. (Not the first time they'd been down there tonight, but that had nothing to do with me.) By the time they arrived at 10:25 the music had stopped, so I apologised for wasting their time and asked them to take no action, since she's been pretty good over the last month or two. At 11pm, it all kicked off again.
I went down, hammered on her door (twice, until she heard me) and made my views forcefully known. She apologised and turned it down.
Just now, I'm watching "Nashville"... (On headphones )

Do you have a lot of trouble with your downstairs neighbour? And what had the police been there for first time?

I used to have a *lot* of trouble with her, but she's quietened down recently. I don't know why the police were here; they buzzed my door to get let into the block, and then they knocked on her door.

Yes excellant, a tale of redemption through loss, humility and sacrifice.

Yes
Written by a cultured American (shock / amazement), his father worked with lepers in India.
His novels mix religions and cultures, supposedly science fiction, it's more Brothers Grimn, bleak, it is ulitmately about redemption.
There are some very slow movements and it can be disjointed, but ultimatley it's a work of humanism that an English writer would struggle to achieve.

All right then.
I take it you were joking about cultured Americans. Most of the Americans I have met had quite as much culture as a good few of my colleagues...
And they are so spoiled for art and music.
