Punch and Judy

Guaranteed always to make a show of themselves:
his special performance
guaranteed to break the ice at any party:
Punch always knew the way to do it
catching Judy unawares
she always managed to doge the first few,
but wasn't able to
judge the last punch
Punch and Judy

I wrote this poem with a fusing of several ideas and forwarded it to
Poetry Corner where it was a total damp squib.
The ideas are Punch and Judy were a pair of puppet characters who entertain children at the seaside and Judy being beating up was the object of the humour.
I also tried to incorporate the idea that violent men are also very charming and good deceivers of human nature,
Another theme was to do with the World Cup. A small section of women will die at the hands of disgruntled men whose team hasn't won,
which is why I wrote the line about Judy never judging the last punch
the one that kills her
Key: Complain about this post
