hello, helo and hello smiley - smiley. you seem a charming person, anomonymity (is that spelt right?) is indeed one of the best features of the internet. your name says you are in search of relevance? are you really? i'd have thought from the small amount of htwo gtwo i have seen so far, that you should be mad as a pancake having spent so long on it. not that everyone isn't anyway. *talks mindless gibberish for another 50 lines*.

Nice to see you smiley - biggrin

So good of you to pop in - have some smiley - cake and smiley - bubbly

I think most of us are in search of some kind of relevance - wandering around trying to find where we fit in ... I think that I decided long ago that relevance is probably overrated and it's much better when we don't quite "fit" - the bits that end up sticking out are much more interesting than a smooth exterior ;-D

I looked at your page and noticed that, at one stage you were thinking of leaving us - I am so pleased that you decided to stay smiley - biggrin

Are you enjoying it here? Is there anything that you need help with - if so please ask - because I'm in Australia I'm not online at times that are always convenient but there are always lots of ACEs around who will help.
But if there's anything I can do - just drop me a line.....

smiley - cheers

hehe, i'm glad of your relevance opinion; obviously there are times when it is needed, even required, but it is definitely much more interesting, when applicable to have irrelevances. chipfork.

and by the way, it's very nice to see you too. cake and fizzy tea? charmed, i'm sure.

yes i was planning on leaving, but then i was also planning on staying, i just couldn't make my mind up about it all. best to be indecisive i think, at least that allows me some sort of flexibility. there are many brilliances present here, i just need to spend more time here and not expect too much (my girlfriend somewhat overhyped it). ACEs are all very well and good, but to me the title "ACE" has very little impact. i am quite sure that there are an equal proportion of interesting and wonderful people who aren't ACEs as there are people who are ACEs.

no disrespect to yourself. i am quite sure that you are the best ace in the whole universe. smiley - biggrin

australia hey? sounds positively marvellous, i'm from england. i usually visit the pages of people who are online at the same time that i am - i think i got up very early once. anyhoos, a pleasure it has been reading and responding to your message of cheer. thanks ta muchly,

smiley - laugh There's nothing special about ACEs - it just stands for Assistant Community Editor - and is sort of the h2g2 equivalent of a Neighbourhood Welcome Wagon. The ACEs are really just friendly people who like to help other researchers find their way around.

Just as with any group there are all kinds of ACEs - Im definitely NOT the best but I like to think that I'm also not the worst smiley - biggrin

The great thing about h2g2 is that it is really just like any other community - you'll run into lots of people, some you'll like, some you won't. As with Real Life the trick is to avoid (as much as possible) those you don't like and don't let them get to you, and to just spend time with the people you like. Though I must admit that sometimes a bit of negative interaction is good for you smiley - winkeye It sharpens the wit and opens you to other points of view. It also makes you appreciate the people that you DO like smiley - laugh

hehehe, negative interaction indeed... i suppose it doesn't matter as long as you stay friendly and don't go and be nasty or anything. i did get quite scared by some of the things i originally found here.
neighbourhood welcome wagon? that's a new one to me. strangely it only makes me think of wagon wheels. hmm could do with one of those right now!
oh dear i seemed to have burned the pork chops. honestly, how a boy of 18 is supposed to know that pork chops slightly brown are burnt. i obviously haven't been brought up right. i am sure they will taste ok. maybe i will eat the more burnt ones. my mother seems unduly upset by the whole affair. eighteen feels quite old. i always thought i was too old for my own good.

sincerely (but with a sense of the ridiculous),

Hint for burnt pork chops (been there - done that smiley - laugh

A can of stewed apple baby food - warmed and poured on the chops before serving helps disguise the overcooking - always handy to have a small can in the cupboard - sort of like a first aid kit for pork smiley - laugh

I remember when my brother went to England for a year to play cricket - we kept getting phone calls asking things like "how do you put the cord back into your pyjama pants?" and "how do you mash potatoes?" So you are not the only young man who is not as "domesticated" as he should be smiley - laugh Take heart - my brother is now quite a good cook smiley - ok

first aid kit for pork. one suspects it would be of more use when the pig was actually alive, though i'm not quite sure how a pig would react to being smeared with apple sause.

oho ooh ooh. a brother. to england. to play cricket?! why on earth he should want to play cricket in england is beyond me. i'm sure i could be a good cook if i ever put my mind to it.

mmm, i am still intrigued by the idea of preparing meats before the animal is actually dead. gravy on the cow. hehehe. sounds like a great idea for an art project of some sorts. any others?

How about feeding chooks with red wine - so that instead of coq au vin - you would have vin au coq smiley - winkeye
