I like your input. You are basically where I was 37 ywars ago when in the university.
The Primary difference between occidental logic and zen logic is the basis of their hypotheses. Occidental logic is based upon what the logician has been told, zen logic is based upon what the thinker has experienced.
When a zen master hits his learner aside the head with a 2x4 for giving a long metaphysical answer to the first koan, it is not an illogical act, but an attempt to ground the learner in his present physical reality. To wit, the answer to the first koan should involve no obfuscating words, but should be the simple movement of one hand, with no attempt at phony metaphysical postulations.
If you are an apple slice in an apple pan dowdy and the brown sugar misses you, you are not less an apple slice, but more a distinctive slice!
