Are Post Women - Posties, as they are often referred to here - really called Information Conveyencing Officers in the UK now?

Actually I think the correct term is Postal Delivery Officer or something boring. But there's nothing like a posh title to get a conversation going - especially when you admit to what it really is. After all, "Visual Appliance Maintenance Technician" sounds pretty impressive doesn't it? Or how about being a "Marine Recreation Safety Officer"? The list is surely endless with a bit of imagination!

In my business, I sometimes encounter people (younguns mainly), who try to make out that gardening is something astronauts do. There are some damn silly titles about. I'm happy to be a "gardener". That way, I don't have to suck in my stomach or worry if there's mud on the brim of my hat.

Good for you for being a down-to-earth type person. I've done several types of job & found that office workers are all a bit removed from reality, whereas when I worked in a stable yard everyone was really nice and friendly and "real". I find that other potters are usually very "real" too, as I suppose most gardners are. After all we both work with the earth, albeit in different ways. Puts things in perspective doesn't it? PS thanks for chatting to me - I've looked online for some chatrooms but they all seem to be more like "chat-up" rooms to me.
