My faith in the human race has returned! Trust those Brits to do it, too. All day long I had the nagging feeling that everyone in the world is stupid and witless. Then, I come to the h2g2 and read a few user pages and *bada-bing bada-boom!* I am surrounded by delightfully witty people! God, I love all of you out there. Except for those few of you with stupid home pages (see, for a good example, Researcher 33972's page). I really must move to England. So many beautiful, intelligent people there. Curse this American cultural desert in which I live! Praise the oasis of Great Britain!

Hello, I'm glad some Americans agree that we are the funnyest people
In the world! but surely you have English comedy in America,
(monty python, blackadder, faulty towers?).
P.S. never, never, ever say "Praise the Oasis of Great Britain!" when In britain, you are likely to get beaten to pieces.
(They are a 'band' here that nobody likes)
P.P.S this may be typically steriotypical of me but, all the Americans I've ever met seem to be under the Impression that all English people in England live In London! I've never been there, and when Americans find out that I'm not from London, but from backwater Stoke, they seem to go off me compleatly.

You told me to talk to you so i am. I've brought the wee leprecaun sitting on my shoulder along with me. He'll have a pint of murphy's. Any way, I totally agree about Americans thinking we all live in london. Once, a Welsh bloke came to school who worked for the BBC nature dept and told us about the rain forest. The americans who went with him didn't realise that a) wales is not a suburb of London b) Scotland is a seperate place and not just the top of england and c) only very few people in britain still have elevenses.
Oh, and on a tele programme called Tourist Trouble there was a an American girl who absolutely beleived that british people ate squirrels and chip munks. Regularly. There aren't even any chipmunks in Britain.
But i'm sure americans get just as annoyed about brits who don't realise about the different states in the US. And not all americans are idiots. Some of them invented my fave TV programme: Friends. There isn't a day that goes by were I don't watch an episode.
Any way, I've got to go: Ive got revision to do. Got me a chemistry test on Monday.

If I said I thought all Englishpersons lived in London, excuse me. I think no such thing. I do think that British comedy is the work of gods. I'm never sure whether to say "Brits" or if that's insulting; I've met folk who insist that there are Scottish, Welsh, and English, but no British. I meant oasis as in a spring of life-giving water in the desert, not as in the band. It was meant to be an overly-effusive compliment.

As a general rule of thumb, it's probably best to use "Brits" or "British" unless you're absolutely sure which part of Britain the person comes from. The Scots don't take too kindly to being called English. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people, even in England, who don't realise that!

Thank you very much. It was a problem that had me lying awake nights, and now I can sleep soundly again.
