Nice Entry! Mutual backslaps all round.
One tiny thing...the bit on Language:
You probably know...'güle güle' isn't *quite* Turkish for 'goodbye'. It's only said by the departee, not the departer. The departer says 'Allaha ısmarladık' (do the i's without dots work on h2g2). Think of 'güle güle' as approximately 'fare thee well' or 'bon voyage'. There are various otherways of saying 'goodbye', but 'güle güle' is the automatic response to 'allaha ısmarladık'.
I did strangely well at my attempts to speak Turkish. The best sentence I managed was 'Are there big fish in there?'.

No...the dotless i's don't work. Neither do the u-umlauts, for some strange reason.

Oh gosh! Credit where credit is due here - it's almost all Gnomon's work.
I only supplied the "an h2g2 researcher" quote at the beginning of the entry. I happened to be there during the 1999 earthquake and I recounted my experience of those days (I might not have included my successful attempt to log on to h2g2 that night to recount my experience, and this was before I thought about ringing my family ).
Key: Complain about this post
