Canterbury, Kent

Canterbury, what sort of image does that conjure up for you?
Archbishops?
Cathedrals?
Geoffrey Chaucer?
Christopher Marlowe?
A little known film by Michael Powell?
or Shopping?
Hang on a minute, Shopping? Well, yes, Canterbury is completely overwhelmed with shops, bars, cafes and estate agents and "Big Issue" resellers.
Canterbury is a very relaxed and cosmopolitan City with an overabundance of students, tourists, pilgrims and just a few indigenous inhabitants for a bit of value added cultural colour.
On Wednesdays and Fridays, you can join in the atmosphere when the City centre comes alive with the hustle and bustle of street markets.
If you are feeling particularly rich, you can fork out on two english pounds to have the right to visit the Cathedral.
It is well known that the Church of England have shares in Viagra, who knows you may even pick up a tab or two in the Gift shop?
Canterbury also has a "very modest" number of leisure facilities like: a cinema, a theatre and a swimming pool.
It is in easy distance to either London, Bluewater or across the Channel to France (if you don't mind using the unsatisfactory public transport).
Failing this, you could also go to Canterbury in New Zealand, which might have a tad more on offer.
