Peta,
I know it was, but it didn't say it in big unfriendly letters.
I know nothing of these other places of which you speak Bel, Peta and everyone else, I just know about here and am really wondering - if it *really* doesn't matter whether DNA messages or BBC auto messages post to your thread - why didn't old DNA just stay the way he was then.

It does make more sense to have 'BBC' than DNA when it has to be shared with everything that uses the same system. Not everyone who comes to h2g2 is a Douglas Adams fan and don't know the significance, so why would people on the message boards know who it was? Especially when those initials are sadly better known for catching criminals.

Here's a link to all of the message boards on DNA - there are lots!

Hi Galaxy Babe!
Don't worry about the reskinning - h2g2 has been through it several times now, and didn't scream once! Very brave!

Thanks for that, but too much information there Peta - and none of it in classic goo.
I found that link like landing in the middle of Heathrow Airport looking for the ferry to the Isle of Man.
.....scurries back to PS.

You know, I guess we'll have to ask Antelia to create an h2g2 Messages account just for us then. After all, it must be the eds who activate it, no?

Hi
No, it's me who activates it and the decision has been made.
Talking of new sites, we've just this minute (literally!) opened this new full community site -

You mean, Peta is responsible for the change?
Interesting link there, I guess that will be quite interesting (the legal stuff etc) for the h2g2 aviators group, I've just sent the link to Skanky.

Okaaaaaaaaaay I know I'm not a very smart little , but I still don't get it.
All the other message boards get a DNA message .... for what
Since it's just the push of a button, (A22976841 ), I don't see why they can't have a button of their own that says BBC auto messages.
I understand that that would mean a button for everyone else and a button for us s but how hard can it be to push two buttons as opposed to one .... or is there much more involved.
I've seen loads of italicy thingies on the who's online page - Eds of all sorts, so again what difference would it make to have one of these with the title DNA messages to post that all important message .... unless we are being de-DNA'd.

If you look through the machine's conversation list, you'll see it's used to move conversations from one forum to another. On the whole, h2g2 is fairly relaxed about this, so the machine usually operates here only to show that Entries have been picked from Peer Review; but other communities and messageboards are very strict about putting conversations in the right place, and often use the machine to tidy up.
h2g2 did that a while ago too. Do you remember when all those conversations were kicked out of Ask h2g2 and into the Games Room? But we don't do it very often round here.
Since the DNA is in the URL of all DNA communities and messageboards, I can't see why the name change is needed. But, if people found it confusing, I suppose some change was appropriate.
TRiG.

Thanks for that explanation TRiG.
I just wonder why that very special message can't be the exeption and stay as it was.
