I doubt you'll forget English, Taamyu, your grasp of the language is very good.

We're very busy here, as usual. We've had a spate of snow storms recently and we've just moved into new offices with huge windows so we could see the snow really well. Very dramatic smiley - smiley

Hope you are well,

Jimster

Hi Taamyu,

Sorry to hear you've not been well recently, but glad to hear h2g2 is helping.

I've not been to the cinema in ages - well, apart from to see the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I've not seen any new films in a long time though.

This would make a great question to ask in <./>AskH2G2</.> though - you can ask everyone over there which films you should be looking out for.

We're very busy at the moment with the UK elections, which take place on 5 May. And as you possibly saw on the Front Page, it's now possible to get h2g2 on Mobile phones, which is a project we've been working on this last year.

Best wishes,

Jim

Hello Jim,

As I told you, I've been in low for long time, I feel better and better now smiley - biggrin

Though we have now rainy season in Japan, we haven't much rain this season. It gets hotter and hotter and sticky smiley - yuk
I'm dying with this horrible sticky heat smiley - grovel

Recently I'm absorbed with downloading films, music, and some of BBC programmes(I'll delete when I finish watching lol)
And I finally found some episodes of Dr. Who smiley - biggrin
I haven't seen them yet, but I peeped a scene of them. Is it a kind of comedy? Because I heard people laughing when delek was appearing.

A friend of mine introduced this site
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/games/index.shtml
which looks fun
I also found Danger Mouse seriessmiley - laugh looks very fun and easy to understand.

Well, I just want to let you know how I'm doing at the moment.

I'm very happy if you can keep in touch with me.

Have a Lovely weekend smiley - rainbow

Hello again!

We could do with some rain at the moment. Usually a British summer hangs around 25 degrees C, but at the moment it's nearer 30 and it's VERY hot. Of course, when it starts raining we'll all want sun. That's what being British is all about - never liking the weather whatever it does smiley - smiley

Doctor Who is funny at times, but no it's not a comedy. It's a light-hearted drama usually made on a very low budget (although the most recent series was much mroe expensive-looking). Danger Mouse is fantastic though. Everyone here loves his best friend, Penfold.

Good to hear from you again,

Jim

I think your English reads very well - better than my Japanese smiley - smiley

If you're feeling brave, you could ask people on our <./>AskH2G2</.> forum to chat with you too - they're (generally) a friendly bunch. They might be able to make suggestions about other TV shows or films to watch (there's a conversation on there about books that people are reading at the moment that's been going for *years*.

It's probably better to keep chatting on here though as I get swamped with emails all day. Nice to get out of my mail box every now and again.

I could recommend older TV shows but I'm a bit out of touch with new shows as I've been very busy this last year. Have you ever seen a TV show called 'Upstairs Downstairs'? It ran on British TV for five years and was all about the servants in a huge house in London from about 1910 - 1925, and how the lives of the family who owned the house differed to the people who cooked, cleaned and generally kept the house running. It takes in all kinds of historical events, such as the sinking of the Titanic and the First World War.

There's another drama - this one was very short and ran for just three episodes - called 'Shooting the Past' about people who run a photographic archive. Might sound a bit dull, but it's beautiful. All about the stories that can be found within photographs, stories that can connect across generations and still bring a tear to the eye.

Hope these are of interest smiley - winkeye

Some people might be a little uncomfortable with going off-site, so don't be too upset if you don't get that many comments from people, but <./>MiscChat</.> is a great place to get into random discussions that aren't intended to lead anywhere - perfect for refreshing your English, I'd expect smiley - smileysmiley - bubbly

You can always ask anyway - some people might be happy to chat like that - but we do always advise caution because that would mean sharing your personal details (email address) with a stranger whereas on here no-one can contact you if you don't want them to smiley - smiley

I dread to think what an Adult Upstairs Downstairs would be like. smiley - erm

We finally had a thunderstorm last night, which freshened up the air and cleared out the pollen, so it's a lot cooler today. I do love the sunshine, just not the heat at night as I find it difficult to sleep at the best of times.

Ahh.... that might not be the right one, y'know. Upstairs Downstairs ran in the UK from 1971 - 1975. You'll know it's the right one because it will have a fairly slow theme tune and a logo at the start that looks exactly like the one at the top of this page:
http://www.updown.org.uk/

There are many English people who don't write as well as you do, so I wouldn't let it worry you too much. Most people are fairly patient with non-English writers around here. We have people who come from Scandinavia and Germany too, and they get along just fine. smiley - smiley

All the best,

Jim

I was very shocked at the terrorist attack to London last Thursday after the Olympic fever smiley - sadface
How are you? I do hope all of you and your friends, family wasn't injured by the attack.
Fortunately all my friends and their friends in London and UK are fine smiley - smiley thought some of them are very upset with the shock.

Hope you're okay there - and try not to worry smiley - smiley

Hi Jimster smiley - smiley

Glad to know that you're FINE though you have lots of "to do" after the terrible day.

Yes, I'll try not to worry too much.
But not only the UK and but also the world are very uneasy situation and there is no safer place at the moment. This is very stressful for every single person in the world.
--------------

By the way, I'm happy if you can tell me :
1. you pronounce "[ofTen]" or "[ofn]" for OFTEN.
2. I understood that LIFT was used in the UK as "elevator", but POD said that "elavator" was BE instead. And an English conversation textbook as ELT by the Cambridge University Press (for BE, not AE) shows "LIFT" for "elavator".
I'm a little bit confused with the word, LIFT.

I understand that language is living, but I'd like to know the present BE in use.

Take care of your spirit, Jimster smiley - peacedove
