Sorry to hear about the phone incident , I know full well what it's like to have your phone nicked and what a hassle it is. Was it handed in at all?

I haven't heard that it was. I've been stuck with a crappy old motorola on Orange that I keep as a spare, but o2 are going to be sending me another sim with the same number. Yay! I've still got my previous o2 phone, so I can go back to using that. All is not lost, except the polyphonics.

That sounds like the one! It is strangely peaceful in the office, because no-one has this number.

I take it you're quite popular during office hours, then?

Not bad for some, mind you - you pay your licence fee so the staff can sit chatting on their mobiles all day long while us proles get sacked for sending a text to their mum...

If it wasn't for the fact that all the people who text me I either met on h2g2, or introduced them to it you might have a point. It means that it's work, part of a Community person's job. Really.

Who got sacked for sending one text? That's a bit of a bummer.

The place I worked before could be very heavy-handed if they caught you with your mobile on, even if you were sitting in the canteen at lunchtime . Me, I was sacked for having to go into hospital, trivial offence really, compared to texting a friend when all is quiet...

I was only temping there, so I can't even have them for unfair dismissal. However, a couple of weeks after, I found out they sacked 400 staff out of the blue, so you're right about that one!

However, being on the dole sucks - they expect me to go in once a fortnight, in the morning?! You can still taste the toothpaste from last night! All for 80 quid a fortnight too...

Maybe they were having money trouble. Not that it makes it any better for the people who are chucked out of course.

I used to have to get up early twice (yes, *twice*) a fortnight whenever I was on the dole (a good many years ago now, luckily), because I had to sign on on a Thursday. It arrived on a Saturday, so I had to get up early *again* to cash the thing before the post office closed at 12. Dagnabit!

Apparently this company like to make as much money as they can, by selling bits off the business and cutting back on staff as much as they can get away with

Still, I do have a job interview tomorrow - the bad news is, it's working in the HR department of a research company, but the not so bad news is that at least they do strive to cut down on animal experiments and if I have a job I won't end up in the local loony bin. My mum will also be happy that she can stop giving me money and I can move into my own place instead of sharing a bed with my sis. Still, I'm not too comfortable with it.

I don't envy you the decision. You'll make the right choice for you.
