Farewell to an era, hello to the legend

Post 1

I am sure that I am not the only one who feels the same way. Reading the text coming in from around the world shows that Douglas was a hero to many. Showwing us the lighter side of life, a sci-fi world that worked much like every day life and even giving us a detective that coped much better with wierd than any Fox Mulder.

His works influenced more than one generation and I shall be passing on my collection of works to my daughter as soon as I feel she can understand the small jokes as even today, re-reading the books, I see more and more jokes that I missed the first (or many) time I read it.

With so many projects that he was working on and I shall miss the long awaited book, working title 'Salmon of Doubt' (I wrote an email to him many months ago and was amazed to get a personal reply telling me that he was far to busy to concentrate on making it the quality his readers would expect from him) and I still shall be looking forward to the film which will still have that stamp of his style on it.

I remember many years ago watching a South Bank show about him which had the stars of the show looking for him in his home and I always will remember him being so coy about the fact that he was famous. But he was. HHGTTG did influence many people, even my partner, who will decry the notion of sci-fi, still remembers not moving while the show was on and reading the books.

I give out my condolences to the family, he will be greatly missed, but a tiny bit of him will continue to live in all of us that have ever read a single peice of his work. His humour, his views even his style will continue on in his work, in the people he touched and in the legend that is Douglas Adams.

I am sure that he is now somewhere where he can continue on his journey to find out the true answer... and be proved right.

Farewell from all your fans

Christopher Cross
