According to a news report I just heard, the wonderful singer Kirsty MacColl has been killed in a freak swimming accident in Mexico.
She was only 41.
At this time of year, her version of 'Fairytale of New York' (with The Pogues) is played all over Ireland. Christmas shopping won't be the same.

An unfortunate fact that has escaped my notice in this the land of little interesting music.

Indeed, it was terribly sad.
Perhaps now, though, she will start to be appreciated - the BBC2 tribute to her, which was most excellent, was probably more coverage than she'd had in the preceding 3 years.
Oh, and I think the moderators got over-enthusiastic, as the removed URL above was a link to an article on the BBC's own news service!
