I realize you're on a camping trip right now (enjoy!) But I thought I'd pop in with a question I think you're unique skill set will find easy to answer.
So I just set up and got running slackware linux on my PC. I've pretty much got everything just so, except I have completely failed to setup printing. There's no mention of printing in the slackware linux book, I've tried reading the HOWTO print from the linux doc project, I tried googling printing from slackware (the only file is out of date).
My problem with the HOwTO is that it never presents a clear picture of how any one version of Linux, unix, etc. ever operates. So I have no idea. All I want is to print to a networked printer - a case that it keeps saying is easy. It also says my setup script should take of everything - but when I run "apsfilter" it specifically says in the opening that it won't modify the "/etc/printcaps" file. ARRRGHH!
I know this is easier than I'm making it, so I was hoping a Guru could give me a few quick points, or even point me to a well written document. Any help will be much, much appreciated.
BTW, enjoy your camping trip...that's one thing I really miss, I haven't gone camping in many years.
I got codeweaver's commercial wine for this beast, so I should be able to play some DII. I mentioned it at the Atelier - I've seen downloads of peoples custom DII scenarios. Do you know anything about those? Is there a "development" environment for building em?

Hey Marv
My roomate recommended using Mandrake LInux instead of Slackware, so I'm making the switch. Disregard the above. I think Mandrake should be much easier to do everything in.

Hey Dave, let me know how it flies!
I know nothing about the custom scenarios for DII but am interested in them.

It's running pretty well right now. I got all the printing issues worked out, so I think I'm good to go, as far as using it as my office computer. I still need to get the DVD and CD-write drives working, but that'll come in time.
Now I mainly have to get used to the Linux software. The command line stuff came back pretty fast, which was nice
