Hello,
Can't express how pleased I was to recieve your message especialy as you used my native tongue.
Have visited your space as requested, wasn't sure whether to post this there or here?
Am very new to all of this! looks like it may take some time to get familiar with it all.
Seems that some people out there are into long standing conversations, and am a little wary about joining in where not invited. Perhaps this is the start of something?
Like yourself am father of grown up daughters 25 & 22, thought I too could retire early, August 2007, but the organisation that pays me has no money so it looks like I will have to work for thye next 9 & 1/2 years !!!!!.
Have left the mother country this morning to work my share of office cover this holiday. Minus 8 at 6.00am and a cold & frozen drive into rural Cheshire.
Perhaps you could give me some tips of how to get the most out of H2G2.
Greetings for the new year....Bloyddyn Newydd Da.

Hi WHW!
Sorry for lack of speedy response. Have only dropped by for a quickie and have got to off almost immediately.
However, was glad to receive your response and will drop by later today with more inane conversation.
by the way, I'm sorry to say that I don't speak Welsh - only the odd polite word or two.

Right! back for that bit of inane chat - Spurs? must cost you a bomb for both home and away games. What's wrong with Cardiff? ok ok bit south for you I suppose
No Idea at all what advice I could give about making progress here. I did a fair amount of lurking around first of all. Threads like the Limerick, Dopplegangers, Telegram Game etc are all easy to drop into without too much knowledge of H2G2. You can always spend some time just reading back comments and following the thread to see what happens and then jump in. Don't be put off by criticism; its mostly meant to be a help, not really a criticism at all. I noticed for instance that someone on the limerick thread had pointed out that you had posted to the wrong place in the thread ie had missed a page. I used to do that all the time. I discovered that it was 'cos I had my favourites side-bar open at those times, and you cannot see the dark blue down arrow on the right hand side of the box.(indicating further postings have happened)
If you find problems with a particular item, there is always the ask the h2g2 community thread, where any number of people will offer advice on a particular topic.
We will no doubt have different preferences; although I am fond of walking, gardening and reading. If you look at someone's personal space; and then see what conversations they are subscribed to, visit any of those for ideas on which things you want to be involved in.
Say for instance the limerick thread, at the top of each posting you will see the link for the person who posted it, click on that link and it will take you to their PS. (sorry, no doubt you already know this as you visited my space)
As you say, a lot of people have been having a conversation for a very long time. However, if you study these, you will find that it is mostly comprised of several people in the conversation. If you find someone you want to start a conversation with but don't feel comfortable jumping into the thread, just visit them instead and leave a message. Most will get back to you.
If I can be of any help of course I'd be delighted; but I have to say I have absolutely no specialist knowledge at all.
Take care friend.

Just a thought! although I didn't do it at the time, because I didn't know, it is apparently deemed polite to reply to the posting you had from the ACE.
Speak soon.

Oy you! Happy New Year and where are you?
Ok, so maybe you are on holiday - it is the holiday season after all. Still! I keep sending these postings without response and a person gets the feeling that nobody is at home.
Keep happy

Sorry if any delay in reponding made you feel
By way of an apology, &
Your comments & advice are most welcome, will do as you advise and do a little
In response to some questions raised, Spurs cost me next to nothing, as I only support them when they are pl;aying away, Liverpool Manchester etc. Have supported since 1962 when they were a good team.
As for Cardiff, no chance...... used to live near to Newport & supported The County .
Good thing about living in North Wales is easy accress to Snowdonia, the Lakes & DEREBYSHIRE....
Catch your reply

Glad to see you back in the word of hootoo.
Been out walking in the wilds of Derbyshire today. Extremely chilly but really nice. Pity we haven't got any of those wild Boar from Devon around, they would really love it here!
See you on threads various - follow mine if they are of any interest.

Hi WHW!
New Year went extremely well thank you. Did not have which is always a blessing. Did your's go ok?
The weather here is very at the moment and we have had the odd (very odd) flake of the white stuff; but unfortunately, no great covering. I am one of those idiots who love the snow!
Not much planned for this particular weekend; other than getting ready for a foray down to Bristol later next week. I am visiting a friend for a few days, Daughter is flying out to Geneva and Husband is looking forward to a few days of absolute peace and quiet.
Being a lady of leisure is not usually associated with actual leisure in this house. We are usually out and about doing something or other. Have in fact, just spent the last hour cleaning up hiking boots from yesterday's mosey around The Derwent Dams.
Take care

greetings , must be nice to just up & get away, trust Bristle offers you a good time .
have had a few walks around Derwent, the last was chosed by the wife.
our walks tend to differ, she thinks my obsession with hights and ridges an unnecessary evil
The one she chose was supposed be a comfortable round above Ladybower,
some six miles later found ourselves decending from the highest point down an almost vertical path for about 1500 ft The good think was that it was not my choice. how nice to feel smug for once
Catch up with u on your return.

Evening WHW!
Just realised that I hadn't responded to your enquiry about Bristol, on the limerick thread.
Bristol was great thanks. I thoroughly enjoyed it and stayed longer than planned. Mind you, it wasn't the rest I had anticipated. My friend had me in the swimming pool within ten minutes of getting off the train. The following day we were at the gym and then I persuaded her to come pony trekking with me, so all in all, I was ready for a break when I got back home.
Are you up to anything interesting - like walking up Ben Nevis or scuba diving in the Atlantic?
Take care

Morning Scorp'
Good to be back on line, the delay was unexpected
Think you've got the wrong mental image, am not Chris Bonnington Just a matutre hill walker with slow
Have had a couple of small walks this year, have a book called the Welsh One Hundred, as it says on the cover, contains the 100 highest mountains in Wales. am working my way through the list.
Have done most of the big and well known ones previously, but some of the lesser mts are in strange and remote places.
Saturday drove for 2hrs to the other side of Bala, walked for 21/2 hrs and then drove home ( No 61 in the lsit)
My intention is to have walked them all by the end of next year (in cluding those I've done previously. Since Jan 05 have bagged 52 only 48 left, but it works out at some 25 seperate walks.
Glad you enjoyed dear old Bristol, spent many a good day & night there as a student. Bookshops by day the Beer Keller by night and even more
You friend sounds like a really nice person
Did your beloved treat you well for StVD I trust.
Catch up with you on various threads
