Lot o times I've been to London meets I give the tube a miss myself as I don't like it much, and get taxi instead, bit more expensive, but I useually find most cabbys in london are alright, despite what you hear about them ripping people off I've never had that experiance 
you could arrange to meet up with some people at the station in London 9not sure what station you'd come into from your location, kings X or liverpool street, or victoria I guess
