Having returned from what I would describe as a "health break", I had a quick look to see what had been going on in the world of H2G2
In the spirit of the great DNA, I had posted a brief comment entitled "Bureaucracy" - or some nearly-mis-spelt lookalike - whilst totally under the alfluence of incohol.
Several of the replies interested me:
I always think it amusing when the mighty Mark descends to pontificate - now there's a guy who is nearly so powerful that he doesn't think it necessary to disguise his commercial agenda (and I don't have any problem with that, for without it, H2G2 would be history).
I always think it even more amusing when subordinates try to toady to the mighty Mark ( and at this point I'd like to add my belated Happy 30th birthday wishes !!! )
I am interested when people press their case extremely hard and refuse to budge. It is in this latter respect that I thought "who is this number 26whatever... " So I looked up your home page, half expecting it to be a pseudonym for MightyMarkM
Imagine my surprise at reading your claims of open-mindedness.
So long. Thanks for all the fish. Off to consider the definition of hypocrisy

If I recall correctly, the gist of my stance was 'don't knock it 'till you've tried it; the old system had problems of its own'.
It irritates me when people are so cynical about something new that they destroy it before it even has a chance to prove itself; what I was arguing against, in fact, was a lack of open-mindedness. And whilst it may occasionally be profitable to consider the viewpoint of the closed-minded, it seems far more likely, in general, that it be more beneficial to persuade them to widen their viewpoint a little...
So, yes, I was stamping down on the various arguments a little strongly rather than inviting discussion. It may have appeared that I was refusing to consider their points of view; I can assure you, however, that this was not the case.
I never claimed to be open-minded; I merely state how important I think it is. I think, in general, I manage to be fairly open-minded. At least I'm concious that there's a definite failing where I'm *not* being open-minded...
Please don't think to call me hypocritical, though. You barely know me; if you'd read all my h2g2 posts, you'd still barely know me. It's hardly fair to start insulting me on the grounds of a few forum posts, I think.
Still. Nice of you to drop by...
I'm curious - do you disagree with what I've said about the new system, or do you just think the open-minded shouldn't be allowed to have a point of view?
